Shrewsbury Massachusetts, United States University of Massachusetts Medical School Full time
Overview:
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Workplace Equity and Inclusion, or designee, the Work Incentives Counseling Supervisor (WIC Supervisor) is certified by the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) as a Community Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC) or Community Partner Work Incentives Coordinator (CPWIC) and has eight years or more experience providing benefits and work incentives counseling services to beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Counseling services includes information on how employment will affect eligibility for SSI, SSDI and other federal, state, and local public benefits such as Medicaid, Medicare, subsidized housing, and food stamps. In addition, the WIC Supervisor provides daily supervision, technical assistance, and oversight of Work Incentives Counselors (WICs) who are in training to be certified by the SSA as a CWIC or CPWIC and WICs and Senior WICs who are certified as CWICs or CPWICs by an approved SSA program.

The goal of the WIC Supervisor position is to ensure all UMass Chan and SSA procedures and protocols are adhered to including but not limited to the secure handling of Personally Identifiable Information, and the provision of accurate and up-to-date information that will enable SSI and SSDI beneficiaries to make informed choices towards employment and self-sufficiency.

Services are provided to beneficiaries primarily via telephone or videoconference while some services may be provided in-person upon request or need from the beneficiary. Assign cases to WICs and Senior WICs and provide technical assistance, guidance, and information on local, state, and federal public benefit programs, policies, and resources.

Up until a WIC is fully certified as a CWIC or CPWIC, review and sign off on all technical reports including Benefits Summary & Analysis reports, Information & Referral letters, and Work Incentives Plans. After the WIC achieves full certification, conduct quarterly reviews of at least one technical report chosen at random.

Provide day-to-day supervision including scheduling, approving time off, approval of time sheets, and providing feedback on performance including conducting formal annual performance reviews.

Actively research and continually seek out information on local, state, and federal public benefit programs and policies, including eligibility criteria, application processes, interactions with earned income, wages and assets, work incentives, and reporting requirements.

Regularly consult with supervisor, team members, national technical assistance staff, SSA staff, and other subject matter experts to research rules and regulations and address employment and wage issues and any impact on benefits as presented by beneficiaries and referring staff.
