Overview:
ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist/Ecologist to join our growing Environmental Services and Energy practice. This position entails both field and office-related work with excellent growth opportunity within a vibrant and expanding environment. This position will be flexible and based out of our South Burlington, Vermont office and the successful candidate can expect the majority of fieldwork to occur throughout Vermont, within occasional field support to other offices in New England and adjacent regions of New York.

 

Responsibilities

Work within a team of professionals to conduct a wide array of natural resources-related studies and analysis for a variety of transportation, energy, and real estate projects, while occasionally supporting water resources projects

Conduct natural resource surveys including, but not limited to, wetland delineations and functional assessments, vernal pool surveys, wildlife habitat evaluations, and rare species surveys and habitat assessments

Participate in field natural resource investigations

Prepare natural resource study reports, including supporting documents and analyses

Assist with preparation of state, federal, and local permitting applications

Assist with environmental monitoring

 Skills and Attributes

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite

Mobile data collection and familiarity with GIS software preferred

Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to grow professionally

Ability to think critically and solve problems

Strong communication skills between clients and state/federal regulators

Experience preparing State, Federal, and local permit applications preferred

Field ecology experience preferred

Qualifications

B.S. in Environmental Science, Ecology, or Natural Resources related field (a Master’s degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience)

1-3 years of professional natural resources fieldwork experience

Field experience performing wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and plant/animal species surveys in the Northeast US preferred

Ability and willingness to travel for at least 50% of working time during the field season. Expectation is that travel will be local and only occasional overnights will be required
