The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers make a difference in people's lives. Through the collection and resale of gently used goods we are able to provide the financial support to assist men and women with a variety of social and spiritual afflictions. The in-residence rehabilitation program focuses on basic necessities with every man or woman being provided a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, and spiritual direction. All our effort is focused on developing life skills and a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. More than just a job, each member of the team contributes to recycling goods that literally recycle and repair broken lives.

 

The Salvation Army ARC is seeking a Lead Counselor to supervise the work of program staff, oversee intake and counseling, and work cooperatively with Program staff to provide a caring, respectful atmosphere to those seeking our help.

 

Responsibilities:
Be a part of a team that provides a caring, respectful atmosphere to those seeking our help.

Communicate effectively with staff, beneficiaries, and others (referral sources/public) concerning The Salvation Army’s Christian spiritual approach to spiritual rehabilitation.

Work cooperatively with all ARC staff, beneficiaries, and other outside agencies.

Ensure communications with outside agencies and appointments are set up for screening potential beneficiaries for The Salvation Army ARC.

Supervise the Intake Counselor/Coordinator regarding the screening of applicants, completion of initial assessment, and decisions regarding admissions. Perform all intake functions, when necessary, or when Intake Counselor (or Coordinator) is absent.

Ensure new beneficiaries are assigned to counselors. Carry a personal caseload of approximately 35 individuals, and conduct 2-4 counseling and/or education groups and group therapy meetings per week.

Establish and continuously update a schedule of counseling appointments for all beneficiaries so that the majority of individuals have scheduled appointments with a counselor at least twice each month. (Some longer term beneficiaries may be seen on a once per month basis, and certain beneficiaries may require a once per week schedule.)

Provide a minimum of one hour per month individual supervision review with the Intake Counselor, Intake Coordinator and Counselors.

When requested, assist the Administrator(s) in the screening and hiring of additional program staff. Work with the Administrator(s) to recruit, train and supervise interns and volunteers for program expansion and enhancement.

Represent The Salvation Army A.R.C. to government, private, organizations and at interagency meetings, as assigned or requested by the Administrator(s).

Record statistical information specific to your area of responsibility. Ensure that all statistical data from Intake Counselor/Coordinator, Associate Counselor(s), and Head Counselor are submitted to the Administrator(s) within three business days following the end of the month. Daily/weekly reporting is to be done immediately.

Establish and conduct, or supervise the facilitators of, a variety of groups for beneficiaries, such as therapy groups, addiction education groups, Bible study and prayer groups, etc.

Operate compliance screening for prohibited substances equipment, as necessary.

Attend weekly staff meetings and all meetings as assigned by Administrator(s). Present case information to staff as requested and contribute to the staff discussion of counseling methods and responses to specific problems, including documentation of phase progress.

Attend retreats, conferences, and other Salvation Army events as scheduled and assigned (which may include weekend and/or evening time).

This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing to beneficiaries; an example of professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by Supervisor).

Other duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Administrator(s).

Qualifications:
BA/BS/MA with minimum three (3) years experience in counseling or related field preferred.

Excellent counseling skills.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Must have working knowledge of issues such as: substance abuse, homelessness, displacement, etc.

Be aware of and in agreement with The Salvation Army’s Christian spiritual approach to rehabilitation.

Experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.

Flexibility in work schedule to include evenings and occasional weekend time.

      Valid Driver's License Required.
