Working closely with physician, nursing and administrative leaders from across Smilow Cancer Hospital (SCH), Yale School of Medicine and Yale Cancer Center (YCC), the Center of Excellence Program Manager will be responsible for leading and/or supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives designed to drive growth, improve efficiency and/or achieve cost savings across SCH and its care delivery network. As part of the Smilow transformation efforts, the individual will support the planning, development and implementation of service line and/or disease center initiatives to attain differentiation as a destination program. He/she will participate in Smilow's strategic growth efforts by engaging with other key partners such as the Office of Strategy Management and Finance to develop comprehensive assessment of clinical programs and services to proactively identify and propose strategy refinements. He/she will also plan and manage all aspects of the assigned projects or project components from discovery phase through implementation and ensure completion of activities and deliverables as per the project plan. Responsibilities:
1. Working within the context of SCH/YCC Centers of Excellence, and in partnership with physician, nursing and administrative leaders, identifies areas of opportunity for growth, enhanced efficiency, performance improvement, and cost savings.

2. Engages with other appropriate departments such as the Office of Strategy Management, Yale New Haven Health Finance and Yale School of Medicine to develop qualitative and quantitative analyses, including relevant service area and industry research and individual program performance, to support strategic recommendations.

3. As a member of the Center of Excellence strategy team, with input from clinical program leaders, key physician partners and other stakeholders, develops detailed project plans and manages activities, timelines and deliverables to ensure effective and timely implementation of priorities/initiatives.

4. Compiles and interprets key performance data and produces succinct performance reports, business proposals and/or presentations highlighting program performance in areas such as access (physician utilization and capacity, time to first appointment etc.), program differentiation (clinical trials enrollment, research portfolio, publications etc.) and competitive positioning (service area data).

5. Facilitates the work of the assigned project teams, which often include team members from various disciplines and departments and demonstrates success in working well in a matrix environment.

6. Facilitates meetings and coordinates other means of communication with physician partners, SCH and YCC administrative leaders and other key stakeholders to maintain their engagement, manage expectations and communicate progress.

7. Collaborates with project sponsor(s) or leader(s) to develop and implement a project transition and sustainability plan to ensure the project and its components continue to meet the intended objectives, and assist as needed in regular performance monitoring and modifications to plan(s).

8. Supports Smilow enterprise-wide efforts to increase departmental access to, and utilization of appropriate reports to increase organizational IQ on performance and opportunities.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION

 

Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field required. Master's preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum 5 years of healthcare experience required with Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with Master's degree. Experience in project management and process improvement desired.

 

LICENSURE

 

PMP certification preferred, not required

1. Demonstrated leadership in previous positions with a proven ability to work well in a highly matrixed environment. 2. Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationship with physicians, nursing and administrative leaders and other stakeholders from across the organization. 3. Knowledge of health care management and service line operations. 4. Excellent analytic and critical thinking skills to synthesize and deliver actionable information. 5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 6. Ability to work well independently as well as in diverse teams. 7. Adaptability and passion for driving change. 8. Proficient with Microsoft applications to deliver high quality analysis, reports and presentations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Must have the ability to travel to various sites across the health system as needed.

 

Additional Information:
Bachelor's required; Master's preferred; PMP certification preferred but not required. Minimum 3-5 years of experience
