Position Summary:
Position Summary
The Staff Planning Coordinator ensures that nursing units are adequately staffed through the evaluation of current and future department schedules.

Essential Functions
• Evaluates the nursing master staffing plans from the department(s) to provide safe and adequate care.
• Proactive planning and day to day staffing needs will be coordinated through this individual.
• Responsible for administering the self-scheduling process.
• Responsible for unplanned staffing variances, communicating with staff on duty or making calls to off duty personnel to adjust staffing as necessary.
• Ensures staffing patterns developed meets the budget and productivity targets set for the facility.
• Works with the Nursing Operations Managers for the department(s) to develop reports that correlate staffing with guidelines as well as reports relating to staffing effectiveness indicators.
• Proactive planning: Works with nursing operations managers to look at staffing schedules six weeks in advance (at the minimum),
negotiating a balance in the workforce, and posting schedules only when variances have been addressed. Looks at long range time
off requests and leaves of absences to plan for additional or episodic personnel needs.
• Day-to-day staffing: Evaluates planned staffing supply with patient care needs. Receives sick or absent calls, recording and reporting. Reports absences in excess of policy parameters so that appropriate coaching or counseling can occur. Develops resource material to enable quick and timely communication with staff members.
• People: Develops understanding and relationships with staff 24/7 so that ultimate flexibility is insured. Works with NOMs and
Administrative Supervisors for resource management. Works with the ANMs and NOMs to determine needs for pool (within goal
parameters), participates in tracking their compliance with meeting agreed upon hours and shifts.
• Compliance: Works with NOMs to develop reports that correlate staffing with guidelines. Develops easily understood graphs to
report to Administration, NOMs and staff and for annual survey visits.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

 

Other Related Functions
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures.
• Prioritizes workload to manage multiple priorities.

 

Education/Training
• Associate’s degree required. High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of directly related work experience may
substitute for the Associate’s degree (in addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section).

 

Licensure/Certification
None.

 

Experience
• Two (2) years of clinical, clerical, or secretarial experience.
