High School Grade-Level Assistant Culture Leader

Working alongside the Assistant School Leader of Culture, you’re an educator working to support students in their behaviors, helping with discipline, academic counseling, and building relationships to support students when they are having trouble. You’re there when a student is unable to concentrate and needs to reset. You’re on the phone with a parent planning strategies to support their child inside and outside of the classroom. You know every student can succeed and you’re here to help break down any barriers to that success.
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt, 10-months, not an administration or leadership role
Tentative Start Date: July 22, 2024
On a day-to-day basis, you can look forward to the following:
Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture
Work closely with the Assistant School leader of Culture to establish a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and creative school culture
Support teachers to hold all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations
Be highly present and visible during school hours, relentlessly ensuring the school has an exceptional school culture
Assist the Assistant School Leader of Culture in the effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plans
Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day, to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture
Support the Assistant School Leader of Culture as needed with executing consequences or other follow up actions related to scholar behavior on the school bus to ensure students are safe to and from school
Support the Assistant School Leader of Culture’s efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time, and works aggressively with students and parents to ensure excellent attendance
Maintains policies on attendance, food, and drink, behavior, and passes
Assist with the implementation of school safety procedures and protocols including fire drills, lockdown drills and other safety drills as assigned by the administrative team
Respond to and document facility and safety concerns
Complete home visits, both in the summer, and during the school year, to highlight the responsibilities of parents, teachers, and students
Assist the Assistant School Leader of Culture in supporting excellence in all classrooms
Assist with homework collection in the morning, and helps ensure homework is delivered to staff from students appropriately and accurately
Assist with breakfast, lunch, in-between class transitions, enrichment/specials classes, and dismissal, making sure students are always where they are supposed to be and ensuring a professional school culture at these times
Support the Assistant School Leader of Culture’s’ efforts to ensure that the physical environment of the school reinforces school culture and facilitates student achievement
Model the school's values and the standard for professional behavior
In-School Suspension and Restorative Practices
Reinforce consequences assigned to students not meeting behavioral expectations by teachers and other staff
Assign consequences to students not meeting behavioral expectations in classrooms and the student support office.
At the direction of the Assistant School Leader of Culture, assist staff with dealing with behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues
Serves as monitor of student attendance, behavior, movement, and academic outcomes
Assist with monitoring behavioral pull-out and in-school suspensions
Facilitate restorative conversations between students and teachers as determined appropriate by the administrative team
Help students process their behavioral choices, set individual goals, and plan follow-up actions to improve their behavior or demonstrate growth on their character report card
Progress Monitoring & Data Informed Implementation
Manage after school and in school detention as assigned by the Assistant School Leader of Culture
Keep accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, suspensions, phone calls for behavior, student transcript updates, and graduation requirements
Communicate regularly about the progress of students with parents, teachers and other stakeholders such as school leaders and counselors
Communicates timely with appropriate staff on attendance and behavior issues or concerns
Enforce school policies consistently and without prejudice
Monitor student behavior; address student misconduct; document student behavior in school tracking systems and other reporting systems
Attend grade level meetings as well as weekly professional development as directed or needed
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant School Leader of Culture and/or other school administrators
Assists and cooperates with rotational coverage of student discipline rooms or spaces with other student supervisors
Demonstrate a Growth Mindset
Participate as an active member of the school-based Student Support Team
Be trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention and utilize skills/techniques learned in the training as appropriate
Attend and seek out proactive restorative practices training and continued role growth opportunities concerning student culture and behaviors
Attend grade level meetings as well as weekly professional development
Attend weekly 1:1s with Assistant School Leader of Culture
