O’Melveny has an immediate opening for a Talent Development Operations position that can be based in any of our US offices.
Reporting to the Director of Talent Development Operations and collaborating across Talent Development, Human Resources, and other firm teams, this role will provide centralized operational support for attorney and business professional recruitment, onboarding, development, wellbeing, engagement, and retention. This work includes recruiting and professional development processes, programs and events, data and reporting, systems administration, and cross-office coordination.
The team will evaluate workflows, identify opportunities for centralization, and create scalable templates, tracking systems, reporting tools, and other practical solutions. This work will improve consistency and efficiency, strengthen recruiting and retention efforts, and give local teams greater capacity to advance talent development priorities. The successful candidate will bring strong attention to detail, sound judgment, responsiveness, technical aptitude, and an inclusive, service-oriented approach.
The salary range for this role is $60,000
- $80,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Recruiting Strategy, Onboarding, and Integration
• Partner with the Director of Attorney Recruiting, hiring partners, office heads, and practice and department leadership to anticipate and assess lateral associate, counsel, and judicial clerk hiring needs.
• Assess and translate identified hiring needs into prioritized search plans and partner with practice group leaders and the Professional Development team to prepare hiring requests for leadership approval.
• Manage the full-cycle lateral attorney recruiting process for each approved lateral search, including the development and drafting of hiring requests.
• Draft job postings, lead candidate sourcing and screening, coordinate interviews and candidate communications, and manage offer development, negotiation, acceptance, and onboarding.
• Develop and maintain strong candidate pipelines through attorney referrals, search-firm relationships, direct sourcing, and other appropriate recruiting channels.
• Cultivate and manage productive relationships with attorney search firms, establishing clear expectations for candidate quality, responsiveness, and alignment with the Firm’s hiring needs.
• Communicate hiring priorities to search firms, evaluate candidate submissions, monitor search activity, and maintain accurate candidate records in the applicant tracking system.
• Review candidate materials, assess qualifications, facilitate interviews, and coordinate the collection and evaluation of interview feedback.
• Provide market intelligence, candidate and pipeline insights, competitive trends, and practical hiring recommendations to Firm leadership.
• Support candidate due diligence processes and pre-arrival requirements, including conflicts and background checks and the preparation of offer documentation.
• Partner with local recruiting team members on interview scheduling, onboarding, orientation, and long
- term integration, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires.
• Collaborate with internal business functions, including Professional Development and Talent Development Operations, Conflicts and Human Resources, to deliver a seamless hiring and onboarding process.
• Serve as a trusted resource and primary point of contact for candidates and O’Melveny attorneys throughout the recruiting and hiring process. Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Significant experience in attorney recruiting, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle lateral attorney recruitment, ideally for associate
- and counsel-level hiring.
• Strong knowledge of the legal recruiting market, including search firm relationships and lateral hiring practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, senior leadership, candidates, and external recruiters.
• Strong project management, organizational, and follow-up skills, with the ability to manage multiple searches and competing priorities simultaneously.
• Analytical mindset with experience tracking recruiting metrics and using data to inform hiring strategies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Proficiency with applicant tracking systems and Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting multi-office attorney recruiting in an Am Law or similarly sophisticated legal environment.
• Familiarity with attorney onboarding, integration, and due diligence processes, including conflicts and background checks.
