This Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position is in the Medical Administration Service of the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi, MS.Total Rewards of a Allied Health ProfessionalThis Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) assigned to a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) or a Specialty Care Clinic. The AMSA provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. The PACT team is a Primary Care Team that generally consists of a primary care provider (MD, NP, PA), registered nurse care manager, clinical associate (LPN or medical assistant/health technician), and an administrative associate (Advanced Medical Support Assistant).The duties of the Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) include but are not limited to:Coordinating with the with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability and utilizationEnsuring clinic schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinicsMaking adjustments as necessary in accordance with local and national directives, policies, and proceduresDevelops and maintains effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA Medical Centers, and other agenciesCommunicates with non-VA medical facilitiesFacilitating/processing secure messaging with the patient and teamDeveloping and manage a tracking system for follow up care such as consults, tests, etc.Participating in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient careIdentifying incomplete encounters and communicate findings to clinical team membersWorking with the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutionsEntering appropriate information into the electronic recordMonitoring pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedureParticipating and providing input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetingsPerforming administrative follow up actionsParticipating in and independently following up on team huddlesSharing information and collaborating with the medical team to assure continuity of careEvaluating patient information and clinic schedule lists to determine whether patient is vestedEducating providers about shared patients (those who receive their care at multiple VAs or those who have care in the community) and bringing to the attention of the PACTRegistering new patients for care when necessary to facilitate same day appointment schedulingUpdating patient demographic dataCollecting insurance informationNegotiating appointments during check-outScheduling follow-up/ consult appointmentsEntering recall reminder requestsContacting patients that fail to appear for scheduled appointmentsInterpreting and communicate requirements of national and local scheduling directives, policies, and proceduresWork Schedule: Determined by Supervisor.
