Review the position below and apply today.We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.Job SummaryThis position will be responsible for Substation protection and control conceptual design, scope of work and estimates for Dominion's Electric Transmission and Electric Distribution Substations ranging from 4kV to 500kV.Primary ResponsibilitiesCreateand/or modify Protection and Control design documents and drawings for substation projects including the relay functional diagrams and relay panel arrangement drawings.Coordinate with multi-disciplined teams (including but not limited to Substation Engineers, Transmission Line Engineers, System Protection Engineering,Data Communications Engineering, Standards Engineering, Transmission & Distribution Planners, Electric Transmission Field Operations, Project Managers) to fully develop the Protection & Control scope of work.Create project cost estimates using material and labor costing database for the Protection & Control portion of projects. Make necessary updates to the database to improve accuracy and consistency.Develop Conceptual Engineering Estimate Packages for projects and support the Project Managers to take proposed projects through the project approval process.Facilitate smooth transition of the conceptual design to detail engineering and construction team.Provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. Provide assistance to less experienced engineers and technicians in conceptual engineering, detail engineering and the field.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceSenior Engineer/ Engineering Technical Specialist III: Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience or demonstrated equivalent.Staff Engineer : Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience (Protection & Control applications) or demonstrated equivalent.Thorough understanding and knowledge of substation components and their functionsFirm understanding of the protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipmentAbility to read, interpret, and modify one-line diagrams, relay functional diagrams, elementary diagrams,panel wiring diagrams and communications diagrams.Familiarity with electromechanical and microprocessor-based Protection & Control systemsSome drafting experience preferred. Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation is a plusAbility to think analytically and solve complex problemsAbility to interpret codes, regulations, and practicesPlanning, organizational and project management skillsSelf-motivator who can work cooperatively in a team environment, but is comfortable independently seeking knowledge and informationStrong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignmentsEffective decision-making skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsEducation RequirementsREQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIAFor placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or• Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or• Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, the following criteria must be met:• 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or• 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or• 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degreeDegree level Preferred: BachelorsDiscipline Preferred: Electrical EngineeringLicenses, Certifications, or Quals DescriptionEngineer in Training (EIT) license is preferredProfessional Engineer (PE) license is a plusWorking ConditionsCold Up to 25%Dust / Grease / Oil Up to 25%Energized Wires Up to 25%Fumes Up to 25%Heat Up to 25%Loud Noise Up to 25%Office Work Environment 76 -100%Outdoors Up to 25%Pressurized Lines & Valves Up to 25%Radiation Up to 25%Travel Up to 25%Other Working ConditionsTest DescriptionNo Testing RequiredExport ControlCertain positions at Dominion Energy may involve access to information and technology subject to export controls under U.S. law.
