Summary This role is an exciting opportunity with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Special Operations Detachment. This position is aimed at enhancing the Department's mission to protect the homeland. Duties In this position, you will play a critical role in preventing the illegal entry of individuals into the United States by land, water, or air. You will be responsible for enforcing immigration laws and apprehending smugglers or individuals illegally in the U.S. Key responsibilities include: Acting as an Operator for BORTAC. Quickly addressing emergency situations and high-risk incidents to ensure the safety of officers, victims, and the public. Responding to civil disturbances, hostage situations, tactical operations, and search and rescue missions. Showcasing expertise in weaponry, self-defense, crowd control, negotiation, and emergency procedures. Requirements U.S. Citizenship required. Males born after 12/31/1959 must register with Selective Service. Residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years. Ability to successfully pass background investigations and/or polygraph tests. Compliance with the DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan. Must meet job-related medical and fitness standards. Qualifications To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, candidates must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including duties like enforcing immigration laws and conducting investigations. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong ability to handle law enforcement situations with sound judgment, engage effectively with the public, and make prompt decisions. Language Requirement: Proficiency in Spanish is necessary. BORTAC Training: Completion of the BORTAC Selection and Training Course is mandatory for consideration. Firearms Requirement: Candidates must comply with stringent regulations regarding firearms qualifications. Medical Requirements: A medical screening process is necessary after a job offer. This position requires commitment to law enforcement and community safety, and may involve working shifts, overtime, and travel.
