Join the elite team of the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) as an Entry Level Border Protection Agent and be part of our mission to safeguard the American borders. As a vital member of this prestigious law enforcement team, you will contribute to the security and prosperity of our nation.

Salary and Incentives

The annual base salary ranges from $49,739 to $89,518, depending on grade levels GL-5/GL-7. Additional locality pay may apply based on your duty location. Newly appointed Border Protection Agents may be eligible for recruitment incentives of up to $20,000, plus retention incentives totaling $40,000 over the first four years.

Key Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, you will:

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers through surveillance and physical evidence tracking.
  • Conduct checks in various environments including farms, buildings, and vehicles.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal areas using government vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GL-5 level, you must possess:

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure under stress, or
  • A bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited institution, or
  • A combination of relevant experience and educational qualifications.

For the GL-7 level, qualifications include:

  • One year of specialized experience reflecting sound judgment in law enforcement contexts, or
  • A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or
  • One year of graduate education in a relevant field.
