Job Summary and Qualifications Prepares and dispenses medications (under the supervision of a pharmacist), including sterile, and parenteral nutrition preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.* Distributes controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.* Participates in the quality improvement and medication-use review activities of the department. Collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; and maintains logs, records, and other documentation as assigned.* Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.* Completes monthly inspection of nursing units and pharmacy areas*. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. Answers requests at the window. Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well-organized. Maintains current licensure/registration. Attends orientation, education, and training programs. Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.* Attends meetings and participates in committees as required Adheres to health system and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information. Complies with HIPAA Privacy Rule standards. Performs work within specified time frames. Adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule. What qualifications you will need: EXPERIENCE Required: Prior pharmacy technician experience Preferred: Training in hospital pharmacy and IV admixture EDUCATION Required: Registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy Preferred: Advanced training in sciences and/or math and/or Pharmacy Technician training course Hours: Full time, evening shift (rotating weekends). 8 hour shifts between the hours of 12pm-11:30pm LewisGale Medical Center has provided quality healthcare services since 1909.
