Core Functions

  • Accurately identify all patients for entry into the hospital trauma registry.
  • Perform abstractions and data entry for all injury-related admissions, all injury-related deaths, all injury-related hospital transfers, all trauma activation patients.
  • Ensure all trauma registry data elements are collected and entered within 45 days of hospital discharge.
  • Work with transferring hospitals, EMS agencies, coroners' offices, and other entities as needed.
  • Utilize the trauma registry coding system. Accurately assign diagnostic codes, procedure codes, complication codes, AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scale) / ISS (Injury Severity Score) to reflect injury severity.
  • Provide monthly, annual, and ad-hoc reports upon request and approval by the Trauma Program Manager.
  • Review, correct, and validate Trauma Registry reports prior to submission.
  • Review emergency department logs daily to identify all trauma patients seen.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Assumes responsibility for trauma registry maintenance, including daily data backup, software performance, accuracy of information in the trauma registry.
  • Reports critical performance issues to the Trauma Program Manager.
  • Continuously evaluates work processes and design to support quality and performance improvement, productivity, service delivery.
  • Performs duties in alignment with departmental policies and procedures, recognized professional standards, quality and patient safety standards, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Supports and maintains effective communication among physicians, staff, and other departments.
  • Consistently promotes a professional image in appearance, attitude, behaviors.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with scheduling to meet departmental needs.
  • Participates as an integral member of the Trauma Quality Improvement team.
  • Performs other Quality related audits and duties as assigned.

  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Maintains hospital requirements, policies, and standards on confidentiality.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.
