Position Type: Middle School TeachingDate Posted: 7/21/2025Location: Prairie Hills Junior High School Closing Date: 07/31/2025 Job Description Title: CTE Coding and Gaming Teacher Location: Prairie Hills Junior High School Employment Type: Full Time Work Days: 10-month position FSLA: Exempt Reports to: Building Principal Job Summary: The CTE Coding and Gaming Teacher provides instruction in computer programming, game design, and interactive technology for grades 6–8 as part of a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The course introduces students to core concepts in coding, game development, animation, and digital media while emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Students gain foundational skills in programming languages, user interface design, and the principles of game mechanics, preparing them for further study and potential career pathways in Information Technology (IT), Software Development, and Digital Media Design. The teacher will deliver engaging, project-based instruction aligned with ISBE CTE standards, supporting the district's mission to prepare students for college and career readiness in a rapidly evolving technological world. Education, Certification, and Licensure:Eligible to receive an ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) in Business, Marketing, and Computer Education/Computer Programming, with appropriate coursework completed or Eligible to receive an ISBE Educator License with Stipulations (ELS/CTE) in Computer Programming (district will assist with certification if needed). Minimum Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Minimum 2,000 hours (2 years full-time) of paid industry experience within the past five years. MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certification or must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Adobe Photoshop certification or must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Experience:Minimum of 2 years of recent industry experience in computer programming, software development, or digital media. Prior experience teaching or mentoring students in a technology, STEM, or CTE program preferred. Experience developing curriculum and lesson plans that integrate coding, gaming, and technology applications. Familiarity with emerging technologies in AI, VR, AR, and game-based learning environments is a plus. Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:Provide rigorous, hands-on instruction in coding, game development, and digital design based on approved curriculum. Teach foundational programming concepts such as algorithms, loops, functions, and object-oriented design using age-appropriate languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, JavaScript, Unity, etc.). Guide students through the game development cycle, including concept design, storyboarding, coding, testing, and publishing. Integrate industry-based tools and platforms (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity, , Replit, or MIT App Inventor) into instruction. Incorporate soft skills instruction such as teamwork, critical thinking, communication, and digital citizenship. Design and assess project-based learning experiences, including student-led game design projects, coding challenges, and competitions. Support students in participating in industry-related events, coding tournaments, and technology showcases. Collaborate with core content teachers to integrate STEM and computational thinking concepts across subjects. Work with counselors and administrators to help students explore postsecondary and career opportunities in IT, gaming, and computer science. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and creative learning environment that promotes innovation and respect. Maintain and update industry certifications as required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Prairie-Hills Elementary School District 144. Participate in professional development focused on instructional technology, industry trends, and CTE program improvement. Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and program data. Attend faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and advisory council meetings as required. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administration. Terms of Employment: Salary is based on market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent and Board of Education.
