Overview
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Financial Manager to provide financial management, accounting oversight, and operational leadership in support of the District's fiscal objectives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and improving the effectiveness of internal accounting processes and controls.

This position requires strong analytical and leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively with District staff, auditors, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist District staff in executing and monitoring the organization's overall financial plans.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all accounting events are recorded accurately and in compliance with GAAP and District policies.
  • Review and validate accounting entries prior to release by the Accounting Manager to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the annual financial audit and other external or internal audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation necessary to secure a clean audit opinion.
  • Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures for accounting and financial processes to ensure consistent application and compliance.
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of internal accounting controls, identify areas of risk, and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with District financial policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis and insight to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate across departments to support grant accounting, bond activities, and retirement plan administration as needed.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, prepare reports, and assist in special accounting projects as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required.
  • CPA or MBA preferred, but not required depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive financial and accounting experience.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles related to Cash Management and Accounts Receivable.
  • Working knowledge in related areas such as Grants, Bonds, Retirement Plans, and Unclaimed Property.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proven experience in project management and process improvement.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial data clearly.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with Accounting and General Ledger Systems.
