Job Summary:
The Medical Assistants are responsible for assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. They are responsible for preparing patients for exams, assisting physicians with procedures, patient phone calls, prescription refills, performing phlebotomy, EKG, Pulmonary Function testing, CIA waived tests, maintaining supplies in their work areas and exam rooms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that includes checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting patients as needed with transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams etc., collecting patient histories, performing screenings per office guidelines, obtaining vitals, charting, relaying instructions to patients/families. Answering and returning calls and electronic inquiries and providing pertinent information.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that includes completing forms/requisitions, verifying patient demographics, managing, and updating patient information to ensure information is complete, accurate and up to date.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include sterilization and setting up instruments and equipment according to protocols, cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Maintaining equipment according to protocols, keeping appropriate records, ordering, sorting, and restocking supplies.
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights, responding appropriately to emergency situations, sharing problems and solutions with staff and immediate supervisor.
- Compliance with all governing agencies, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and BOLI.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/License Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), medical assistant training and current certification.
Experience:
- Experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of completion of an externship in a medical facility.
- Medical Assistant Certification as a Medical Assistant
- Current CPR certification
- Excellent patient communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to problem solve, think critically, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Skills:
- Skill in performing medical assistant tasks appropriately.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs and effectively sharing information with patients and family members.
- Skills in phlebotomy.
- Skills with electronic medical record data entry.

- Plans, prioritizes and completes delegated tasks.
- Communicates effectively and in a professional manner with patients, providers, vendors, and co-workers.

- Ability to recognize potential inefficiencies and willingness to make appropriate suggestions.
- Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work well under pressure.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
- Ability to accept responsibility and proceed with tasks as necessary without direct supervision.
Physical/Mental demands:
- Combination of sitting, standing, bending, walking and ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Requires a full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
- Requires the ability to manage stressful situations.
- Multitasking/Prioritizing.
Other Requirements:
- HIPAA compliance is mandatory.
- Medical terminology.
- Support the clinic's values, goals, policies, and procedures.
