Chemeketa Community College seeks a Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction industry expert to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as career ready, Prevention and Risk Reduction personnel. The successful candidate will serve as an educational leader by demonstrating knowledge of fire prevention and risk reduction, management experience and teaching excellence. The Chemeketa Fire Program has a long and distinguished history with strong ties to the community and a dedicated cadre of staff. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction:

  • Teaches classes as assigned, following current approved course outlines
  • Meets during scheduled class times
  • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes/labs according to program expectations
  • Provides students with class syllabi
  • Delivers course content using appropriate methods for student needs and program curriculum

Course Management & Student Success:

  • Provides a classroom environment conducive to learner growth
  • Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity in the workplace
  • Maintains student records of grades and attendance in accordance with college procedures
  • Responds to student inquiries and provides feedback in a timely manner
  • Communicates available college resources to students

  • Maintains timely communication with college program and supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in fire protection/prevention or related discipline

-AND-

Three years full- time work experience providing fire prevention and risk reduction services.

-OR-

Combination of education and industry experience that appropriately demonstrates preparedness to successfully deliver the requisite position functions.

All applicants must also possess: minimum certification at National Fire Protection Agency Fire Instructor I, Inspector I and II, Fire and Life Safety Educator I and II, International Code Council Inspector I and II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and documented fire investigation experience.

  • NFPA Fire Investigator
  • NFPA Fire Instructor II & III
  • NFPA Fire and Life Safety Educator III
  • NFPA Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist
  • NFPA Youth Firesetter Program Manager
  • NFPA Public Information Officer
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience running department training exercises
  • Community College teaching/training experience
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position belongs to the bargaining unit and begins at Step 1. Please refer to current salary schedules here for more information.
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.

  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
  • Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
