The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources strives to maintain healthy populations of fish and wildlife across the state. The employees of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife are passionate about the resource they manage. The Wildlife Division of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is currently seeking a Wildlife Program Coordinator to work within the Small Game Branch.

Responsibilities and job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate and supervise staff in the creation and performance of surveys and research reports pertaining to quail, rabbits and squirrel.
  • Make regulation recommendations and share information with members of the Fish and Wildlife Commission and senior level management.
  • Represent the agency on small game related committees and working groups at regional and national levels.
  • Work with other program and regional staff to benefit small game species, including the prescription burn program.
  • Serve as the agency specialist on grassland and early successional habitat management issues.
  • Work with sportsman groups as well as federal and NGO partners to promote and improve small game habitat.

Preferred skills may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • The candidate is self-motivated and hold themselves to high expectations.
  • A keen attention to detail, excellent verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to use social media channels effectively.
  • Candidate should have outstanding customer service skills and appreciate digital first consumer needs.
  • Understanding of scientific research related to small game program.
  • Prescription burn certification.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a biological science, wildlife biology, fish and wildlife management, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental sciences, or related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of experience in wildlife management, wildlife biology and/or a related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in wildlife management, wildlife biology or a related field will substitute for one year of the required experience. A PhD degree in wildlife management, wildlife biology or a related field will substitute for two years of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions

Work is performed approximately 50% indoor and 50% outdoors. Duties involve working with all species of wildlife found in the Commonwealth.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
