POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Media Specialist at YMCA Camp Wakonda maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. The Media Specialist is responsible for coordination and output of media and photos for the summer programs. The incumbent must demonstrate our four core values: Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for coordinating the collection and output of media and photos for all summer programs on a session-to-session basis.
  • Updates social media on a regular basis and creates end of session slideshows.
  • Serve as a role model, upholding our camp values, and working with integrity, creativity, and safety in mind at all times.
  • Responsible for the health and well-being of the campers mentally, emotionally, and physically, during their time at camp
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver an supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Provide outstanding and consistent customer service to all camp guests.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Responsible for strict adherence to policies and procedures related to safety and other regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be available between May 24th through August 10th, 2026.
  • Must Reside on Camp Premises.
  • Must be 18 years old with high school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Pro & First Aid Certification required.
  • Able to observe camper behaviors and assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate management techniques, as well as enforce appropriate safety and emergency procedures to the situation.
  • Must be able to assist campers in the event of an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)
  • Exemplify the YMCA core values of "Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility."

  • Safety-sensitive position: Apply appropriate safety and emergency procedures.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to weather and program activities.
  • Physical ability to respond to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of staff.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities.
  • Work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities.
  • Daily exposure to the sun, heat, insect, and animals.
