Building Maintenance Technician – The Historic Cortez Building

Location: 310 N Mesa St, El Paso, TX

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM (occasional overtime for emergencies)

Compensation: $15.00/hour

About the Role

We're hiring a reliable, hands-on Maintenance Technician to handle day-to-day upkeep and light repairs at the Historic Cortez Building (multi-tenant office with attached garage). Ideal for a self-starter who shows up on time, communicates well with tenants, and takes pride in keeping a landmark property in great condition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building maintenance and preventive maintenance per schedule (PM logs, inspections).
  • Light electrical: replace ballasts/fixtures, outlets/switches, lamps; basic troubleshooting (primarily 120V).
  • Plumbing: unclog drains, replace fixtures, repair leaks, swap cartridges, reset/replace toilets.
  • Sheetrock/drywall: patch, tape/float, texture, prep, and painting (walls, doors, trim).
  • Doors & hardware: hinges, closers, locks, strikes, weatherstripping; minor keying/adjustments.
  • HVAC support: change filters, clear condensate lines, basic troubleshooting; coordinate vendors for advanced work.
  • General repairs: ceiling tiles, baseboards, caulking, flooring touch-ups, minor carpentry.
  • Safety & compliance: maintain clean mechanical/electrical rooms; follow lockout/tagout and PPE practices.
  • Work orders & communication: respond to tenant requests, document work, and escalate issues when needed.
  • Vendors & deliveries: meet/supervise contractors; accept and stage materials/equipment.
  • Grounds/common areas: light exterior cleanup, trash/haul-off, pressure washing as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Punctual and dependable: on site daily by 7:00 AM.
  • Experience: solid general maintenance knowledge (light electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting).
  • Tools: must own and bring standard hand tools and basic power tools (drill/driver, bits, wrenches, etc.).
  • License: valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Work status: legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Background: able to pass a background check (no disqualifying criminal history).
  • Physical: lift/carry up to 50 lbs; climb ladders; work on feet most of the day; safely handle common materials/chemicals.
