We are seeking a highly skilled Security Engineer / Identity and Access Management (IAM) Specialist to support Florida State University's Information Technology Services (ITS) in safeguarding its enterprise applications and infrastructure. The specialist will design, implement, and maintain robust identity, authentication, and access controls, conduct vulnerability assessments, and ensure alignment with NIST, FISMA, and university security policies.

This role plays a key part in FSU's cybersecurity governance by maintaining secure access frameworks across PeopleSoft, middleware, and enterprise integrations while leading incident response, risk mitigation, and compliance reporting efforts. The IAM Specialist will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to enhance resilience, protect sensitive data, and strengthen security posture across all university systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions across enterprise applications and infrastructure.

Integrate and administer MFA (Duo, CAS/SSO) and access control mechanisms for secure authentication.

Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, risk evaluations, and penetration testing coordination.

Monitor and analyze security events, alerts, and incident trends using SIEM and related tools.

Lead or participate in incident response, forensic analysis, and remediation efforts.

Develop and maintain access control policies, security standards, and procedures in compliance with NIST 800-53, FISMA, and ITIL security controls.

Support audits by preparing documentation, logs, and evidence for compliance verification.

Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure secure configurations, encryption, and privilege management.

Assist in security awareness training and best-practice dissemination for ITS personnel.

Participate in change management, configuration reviews, and security impact assessments for new implementations.

Expertise and/or Relevant Experience:

Expertise and/or relevant experience in the following areas are mandatory:

M1 Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology.

M2 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity or IAM engineering roles within enterprise environments.

M3 Hands-on experience with:

MFA (Duo, Okta, or equivalent) and SSO (CAS, SAML, OAuth2) integrations

IAM design, provisioning, and role-based access control (RBAC)

Vulnerability management using tools such as Nessus, Qualys, or Tenable

Incident response and SIEM analysis (Splunk, QRadar, or equivalent)

M4 Solid understanding of NIST, FISMA, and CIS control frameworks.

M5 Strong skills in network security, encryption, and authentication protocols.

M6 Demonstrated experience implementing security controls in hybrid on-prem/cloud environments (OCI, AWS, Azure).

M7 Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

Expertise and/or relevant experience in the following areas are desirable but not mandatory:

D1 CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ certification preferred.

D2 Experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle, or OnBase security integration and data protection.

D3 Familiarity with Zero Trust principles, IAM automation, and Privileged Access Management (PAM) tools.

D4 Working knowledge of ITIL change and incident management processes.

D5 Prior experience in higher education, state government, or public-sector cybersecurity programs.

D6 Ability to collaborate across diverse teams to promote a culture of security awareness and compliance.
