Hatch is currently seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our team in the Pittsburgh, PA office. We are looking for students that enjoy working with people in a team environment, strive for excellence, and understand innovation.

The position will allow candidates to directly apply and develop their knowledge in structural steel and concrete design for heavy industrial structures. In addition to theoretical design and analytical work, candidates will gain valuable real-world experience and work closely with experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting senior structural engineers with developing project scopes including reinforced concrete, foundation and structural steel designs, engineering estimates, capital cost estimates and developing repair methodologies.
  • Use the application of Civil/ Structural engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, economical and timely solutions to design problems in a multidiscipline project environment.
  • Application of innovative engineering solutions.
  • Engineering design of repairs to structures or components.
  • Working independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in and pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Candidates with previous Heavy Industrial Internship or Co-op experience is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to various practical problems.
  • A desire to learn and continually develop.
  • Strong personal commitment to safety.
  • Knowledge of structural steel and concrete design is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AISC and ACI codes is a plus.
  • Successfully passing Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam a plus

  • Support preparation of drawings from detailed notes and specifications
  • Coordination with other technicians/engineers on projects
  • Provide support to Senior Engineers and Designers as and when needed
