Department Chair, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders The College of Health at the University of Utah, a Carnegie classified doctoral university, invites applications and nominations for the position of chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. This position is eligible for appointment with tenure at the rank of full professor. The College seeks a visionary, progressive, and collaborative leader who will capitalize on a long history of successful academic accomplishments and implement a scalable, integrated vision into the future. Responsibilities of the chair include: setting and executing the strategic direction for the department; providing leadership in teaching/mentoring/research; growing a strong departmental extramural funding program; directing the department budget; participating in department and university service, and; working with faculty across U of U Health to enhance interdisciplinary practice, research, and teaching. Candidates must have a terminal degree with related research and teaching experience commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor and department chair. Applicants should also have strong evidence of academic administrative leadership and peer recognition as an accomplished scholar in communication sciences and disorders. The strongest candidates will have experience securing and managing externally funded, multi-person research programs and an established record of leadership. Inquiries or requests for information may be sent to: Timothy Brusseau, Ph.D. Chair and Professor, Department of Health & Kinesiology College of Health Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders Part of the College of Health , the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Speech and Hearing Science , the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant ( SLPA ) graduate certificate, the Master of Science (MS) degree in Speech-Language Pathology , the Professional Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) degree, and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Our BS degree in Speech and Hearing Science is the preparatory degree for our MS degree in Speech-Language Pathology and our AuD degree in Audiology. The SLPA graduate certificate prepares individuals to work under the direct supervision of Speech-Language Pathologists in public schools. A Master's degree is the minimum degree required to be able to practice as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the United States. The AuD is the minimum degree required to practice as a licensed audiologist. Our PhD program is designed for training outstanding research scientists in the fields of communication disorders and speech and hearing sciences. Our Mission The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders ' mission is to prepare highly competent and caring professional Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists. The department provides undergraduate students a strong background in the basic processes underlying typically developing speech, language, and hearing and graduate students world-class pedagogical and clinical experiences.
