The Community Relations and Media Manager serves as the primary media liaison, cultivating and maintaining relationships with local, industry, regional, and national press (print, broadcast, and online). This role is responsible for proactively pitching stories, writing and distributing press releases, managing media inquiries, and archiving coverage.

Crucially, this position is also responsible for assisting in community business development, actively working to facilitate and attract meetings, events, and group business to the property. This includes establishing key relationships, representing the property at community and industry events, and leveraging PR and community initiatives to drive revenue.

The Communications Manager also contributes to the annual marketing plan through PR reporting, website updates, advertorial creation, and participation in social media and community initiatives, while managing internal communications projects and serving as the 24/7 on-call media contact.

ESSENTAIL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for strategic public and internal communications, with the primary objective of securing positive media coverage to promote company events, promotions, achievements, and other key messages as planned and directed.
  • Develops and executes a focused community business development strategy to proactively attract and facilitate new meetings, events, and group business to the property.
  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with local business leaders, community organizations, and event planners to position the property as the premier destination for meetings and events.

Communications & Media Relations

  • Serves as the primary media contact for all inquiries.
  • Develops and distributes targeted media alerts and press releases for company-sponsored events and activities to target media.
  • Proactively pitches stories aligned with editorial calendars to secure media coverage for company and on-property events; monitors media for accuracy and ensures timely updates to online platforms.
  • Drives earned and paid media coverage by securing advertorial/editorial publications.
  • Manages all aspects of property awards and external "best of" polls, including nominations, voting periods, notifications, and marketing materials.
  • Coordinates media trips and photo/video shoots for travel writers and media partners to showcase property amenities.
  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with all media contacts through regular professional engagement, providing on-site support and escorts for all press visits.
  • Develops quarterly and annual PR reports and contributes to the annual marketing plan.
  • Leads copy writing, proofreads content for accuracy and adherence to brand standards.
  • Remains on-call 24/7 to address media inquiries.

Community & Business Development

  • Actively researches, identifies, and pursues opportunities to host new meetings, corporate events, and social functions at the property.
  • Serves as one of the key community representatives for the property, attending relevant chamber of commerce, tourism, and industry networking events with the goal of generating new group business leads.
  • Collaborates directly with the Sales Team by providing qualified leads and assisting in the facilitation of site visits for potential meeting and event clients.
  • Develops and executes in-house community and public relations events specifically designed to showcase the property's meeting and event space capabilities.
  • Provides regular property updates and promotional information to regional tourism partners and key business organizations.
  • Keeps the internal team informed about upcoming community events and networking opportunities involving the company.

Internal Communications & Marketing Support

  • Leads and manages internal communications projects.
  • Ensures on-hold messages are current and provides copywriting assistance to marketing, advertising, and sales teams.
  • Captures publicity photographs as needed.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must possess the ability to confidently represent the company and project its desired image on camera.
  • Strong collaboration skills are required to work effectively with the Management team.
  • Proficiency in word processing, digital camera operation, and basic office equipment is necessary.
  • Demonstrated photography skills and exceptional organizational abilities are critical for success in this role.

EDUCATION

  • BA in journalism or equivalent
  • 2-5 years in a related position, casino experience helpful but not required.
  • Must adhere to all appearance standards, including but not limited to no "visible" tattoos/piercings or unnatural hair and nail colors. ***
