WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

We are seeking an exceptional Controller to lead our accounting operations and serve as a strategic partner to our VP Finance and leadership team. As Qualia scales past 600 employees, this role is critical in building, scaling, and improving robust financial infrastructure, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and providing the insights needed to drive strategic decisions. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise in SaaS business models, proven people leadership skills, and the intellectual curiosity to continuously improve our systems and processes. You'll have the opportunity to shape our finance function while working with a talented, collaborative team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. Oversee external audits, tax compliance, and regulatory filings
  • Technical Accounting Leadership: Serve as the company's technical accounting authority, particularly for complex SaaS revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, business combinations, and other relevant accounting standards 
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing accounting team. Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and operational excellence. Develop team members' technical skills and career growth
  • Systems & Process Optimization: Drive improvements in our financial systems, internal controls, and processes to scale efficiently with the business 
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with FP&A, Legal, Tax, HR, Rev-ops, and business leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives
  • Strategic Finance Support: Partner with the VP Finance on strategic initiatives, including board reporting, fundraising, M&A due diligence, and special projects. Provide the financial rigor and analysis needed for key business decisions
YOUR BACKGROUND THAT LIKELY MAKES YOU A MATCH
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller, Director, or Assistant Controller role, ideally at a high-growth SaaS or technology company
  • CPA required, with Big Four or national accounting firm experience strongly preferred
  • Deep technical accounting expertise in US GAAP, with demonstrable experience in SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606), subscription accounting, and stock-based compensation
  • Proven people leadership skills with experience building and managing high-performing accounting teams. Ability to mentor, develop talent, and foster a positive team culture
  • Strong organizational capabilities with a track record of implementing scalable processes, internal controls, and system improvements in fast-paced environments
  • Intellectually curious mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and finding creative solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with modern financial systems and proficiency in Excel 
  • Practical experience using AI to improve team productivity and accuracy.  Curiosity and willingness to experiment with emerging AI technologies to uplevel team outputs
  • High attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture and understand how accounting supports broader business objectives
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and take ownership of initiatives from concept through execution
  • Based in San Francisco, CA (preferred), or Austin, TX

This role has a base annual salary of $225,000-$275,000 plus a competitive equity and benefits package. (Salary to be determined by relevant experience, location, knowledge, and skills of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
