Position DescriptionThe Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) is the statewide public defender agency which provides legal representation to indigent clients throughout the State of Oklahoma, with the exception of Oklahoma and Tulsa counties.OIDS is currently seeking a full-time Resource Navigator in our Lawton office.Basic PurposeAt the direction of assigned case counsel, the OIDS Resource Navigator, based on results from the HRSN Strengths and Needs Assessment, is primarily responsible for assisting OIDS clients in accessing needed community resources, including career and vocational training, housing, employment, securing needed documentation, accessing benefits, and linkage to mental, physical, and behavioral health services to strengthen stability efforts enabling clients to effectively participate in their own defense. The OIDS Resource Navigator develops the Individualized Service Care Plan for each client for use by the assigned OIDS attorney in their defense.Typical FunctionsMeets with Clients who may be in detention or out of detention awaiting trial at the direction of assigned OIDS attorney.Develops an Individualized Care Plan based on Needs Assessment data.Identifies and links clients to needed resources.Assists clients in securing needed documentation such as a social security card, birth certificate, etc.Assists clients in accessing public benefits.Manages relationships with resource organizations and develop systems to ensure coordination and communication between 010S and partners' staff.Collects data to include demographic and referral information for outcomes and for inclusion in funding proposals and reports as needed.Participates in all staff meetings as required.Attends training and seminars as relevant.Demonstrates the core values of the organization.Notifies referral attorney and Chief of Client Services immediately if a client exhibits an immediate concern, ie, suicidal thoughts, crossing or attempting to cross boundaries.Attends Quarterly In-Person Team Meetings, Attends scheduled TEAMS case studies.Performs other related duties as assigned.Working RelationshipsReports directly to the assigned OIDS attorney who initiated the client referral.Works closely with Investigators and Attorneys.Works collaboratively with all OIDS staff, community partners, detention center staff, and client's families.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field and/or significant experience and knowledge of mental health and addiction services.Special RequirementsInteracts with the assigned OIDS attorney and acts as a member of the client's OIDS defense team.Extensive knowledge of social services system and providers with whom collaborations may be sought.Knowledge of criminal justice system.Must abide by all requirements of the Oklahoma Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers codified at Title 5, Appendix 3-A of the Oklahoma Statutes.Ability to have a flexible working schedule.Willingness to serve as an advocate for OIDS clients.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.Computer literacy.Self-directed.Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.Committed to OIDS mission and goals.Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multi-cultural settings with diverse populations, including familiarity with services available to minority communities.Passion for helping others in the criminal justice system.Benefit HighlightsThe Oklahoma Indigent Defense System provides a comprehensive benefits package designed to support our employees and their dependents.
