The Trust and Security Services (TSS) team in the Identity organization manages high scale security services – such as, Public Online CAs, Code Signing, Antimalware scanning, Key Management, Licensing & Activation, Release, which serve as Microsoft's digital trust foundation across products spanning Windows, Office, Xbox games, 3rd party apps, Xbox & Surface hardware, and the commercial Azure cloud. The High Value Asset team within TSS employs best-in-class security (with a strong emphasis on physical security controls) to manage the highest value keys for these portfolios in Hardware Security Modules. We continuously innovate our security and efficiency to address evolving threats while exceeding customer expectations.
We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineering Manager with a proven history of delivering scalable, high-quality services. QualificationsRequired/minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintaining secure software systems, with applied knowledge of authentication, data protection, access control, and secure coding practices
- 1+ years people management experience.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years people management experience.
- 5+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintaining secure software systems, with applied knowledge of authentication, data protection, access control, and secure coding practices
- 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
- Industry certifications such as CISM / CISSP / ISC or equivalent hands-on experience (5+ years) with Security Design and Risk management.
- Familiarity with hardware security modules(HSM)
Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

- People Management: Lead, mentor, coach, and grow a diverse team of talented Security and software engineers delivering world-class security solutions in high-pressure situations.
- Business Leadership: Ability to start with the "Why", deeply understanding business strategy and needs, and translating them into technical & Security requirements and security controls for the DevSecOps team to deliver.
- Planning & Execution Excellence: Manage planning and execution—lead multi-quarter planning, resourcing, and cross-team dependencies to deliver on-time, high-quality deliverables.
Operational Agility: Reduce toil and overhead across teams by creating clarity around policy, best practices for managing infrastructure and data, and simplifying compliance. Drive automation and centralized capabilities to close security gaps, streamline incident response, and scale best practices across regional operations and facilities.
