Position Summary:

Affiliates of Devil's Thumb Ranch seek a knowledgeable accounting professional to join our corporate office in Denver, playing a pivotal role in the financial operations of Devil's Thumb Ranch, Marker Hill Construction, Ranch Creek Excavation, Fraser River Development Co, and affiliated companies. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in handling construction project pay applications and day-to-day bookkeeping. This position requires a strong quantitative mindset, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy. The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Director of Finance and have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities and advance alongside our growing team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and process construction pay applications in coordination with project managers and other upper management, utilizing AIA forms
• Maintain bookkeeping functions, including general ledger entries, account reconciliations, loan balances, and financial recordkeeping
• Record and reconcile journal entries on a regular basis
• Assist with accounts payable, including invoice entry, coding, and vendor communications. Review invoices for completeness and code to the correct cost centers / ensure approved
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and project-related accounts
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Maintain organized accounting files and documentation
• Support the preparation of financial reports for management
• Assist in communication with subcontractors, vendors, and internal staff regarding payment status and documentation
• Assist with special accounting projects and administrative duties as needed
• Ensure the integrity of financial data in accounting software and develop procedures to maintain data accuracy and quality
• Collaborate with various departments to assist with financial information requests and special projects as assigned
• Maintain supporting work papers and account analysis for construction projects, including a monthly closing checklist
• Maintain accurate addition/disposal records of capitalized assets/liabilities and related depreciation/amortization, including calculating and posting any gains/losses upon disposal
• Assist in preparing source documents for taxes
• Perform other duties as necessary to support the successful operation of all entities

Qualifications:

• 1-2+ years of experience in bookkeeping and/or hands-on accounting
• Strong background in bookkeeping
• Experience with development, equipment, or construction accounting (preferred but not required)
• Familiar with AIA construction pay applications and processes (Helpful but not mandatory)
• Hospitality and payroll experience (Helpful but not mandatory)
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required)
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
• Experience with Balance Sheet account reconciliations
