Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing specimen collection, processing, and related clinical support tasks to assist our licensed medical providers in delivering high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate accuracy, professionalism, and compassion while maintaining strict adherence to safety and compliance standards.

Patient Intake & Preparation

  • Greet patients and verify identification and orders.
  • Explain phlebotomy procedures and address patient concerns to ensure comfort.
  • Verify test requisitions, prepare necessary supplies, and confirm consent.
  • Obtain vital signs when required and ensure HIPAA compliance during all encounters.

Specimen Collection & Processing

  • Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and other blood collection techniques safely and efficiently.
  • Collect, label, and process specimens following strict chain-of-custody protocols when applicable.
  • Prepare specimens for transport to reference laboratories, ensuring accuracy in documentation.
  • Maintain proper storage, handling, and disposal of biohazardous materials.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately record patient demographics, collection details, and test orders in the EMR system.
  • Verify physician/provider orders and ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations.
  • Support reporting of lab results and ensure timely follow-up when needed.
  • Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA guidelines at all times.

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Assist with scheduling or confirming patient appointments as needed.
  • Answer phones and provide courteous responses to patient and provider inquiries.
  • Maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies and notify leadership when restocking is needed.
  • Support overall clinic flow by assisting team members to ensure timely and efficient operations.

Quality & Safety

  • Follow infection control and safety procedures to protect patients and staff.
  • Perform routine quality control checks on equipment and report malfunctions promptly.
  • Monitor and document adverse reactions to phlebotomy procedures and escalate concerns immediately.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance patient safety and experience.

Requirements

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a formal phlebotomy training program preferred.
  • Current Phlebotomy Certification (or equivalent military medic/corpsman training) required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred.
  • 1–2 years of prior phlebotomy experience in a clinical, hospital, or occupational health setting strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite preferred).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Professional, compassionate demeanor when interacting with patients and staff.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with specimen collection.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (supplies/equipment).
  • Adequate visual and auditory acuity to perform patient assessments and testing.
