Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the VP of School Services/ Educational Director, apply the power of behavior analysis to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities or other educational needs and provide direct training and mentorship to Special Education Teachers.

The Essential Functions of this position are:

  • Assist with student assessments, IEP development, classroom management, and parent training/support.
  • Act as a TEAM mentor.
  • Ensure those you supervise are aware of, understand and implement the policies and systems that apply to their position.
  • Ensure Special Education Teachers are aware of and know where to access supervisor resources.
  • Conduct/attend clinics, teacher observations, staff evaluations, IEP development meetings, classroom meetings, and PPTs.
  • Ensure all paperwork is complete and sent to district.
  • Fill in for Special Education Teachers as needed.
  • Review documents that are part of the PPT (IEP, Progress Reports, Assessments, etc.).
  • Actively participate in supervisor meetings.
  • Complete student intakes.
  • Floor management/planning with Team including running morning meeting.
  • Participate in parent meetings.
  • Review and edit all paperwork completed by Special Education Teachers.
  • Participate in the SEED evaluation process.
  • Model high levels of professionalism and confidentiality and ensure staff maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate dignity, sensitivity to, and respect for the needs and feelings of all students while utilizing patience, empathy, and enthusiasm.
  • Manage and assist with crisis emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications and requirements:

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Special Education or Behavior Analysis.
  • Holds CT Comprehensive Special Education, Grades K certificate.
  • Professional credential(s) required for position: Comprehensive Special Education certificate (CT 165) & CT Special Education Teacher Certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience teaching in a classroom, preferred.
  • Experience working directly with children and other teachers as a licensed Special Education Teacher.
  • Excellent professional, leadership, organization, and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • A knowledge of computer systems and applicable software and proficiency with e-mail communication.
  • Required to properly wear PPE and attend all trainings related to PPE.
  • Required to follow all safety procedures and requirements.
  • The job duties require an employee to routinely and safely demonstrate heavy to very heavy physical demands associated with 'hand on' efforts when physically managing students, under routine, emergency, and/or aggressive behavior management scenarios.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to physically care for young children/adolescents/teenagers, with and without the assistance of one or more designated individuals.
  • Must have the physical ability to bend at the waist (up to 45 degrees), twist, and move independently between standing and kneeling positions. Requires the ability to firmly grasp objects and raise hands overhead.
  • Must be able to engage in sustained physical activity such as walking, running, and shuffling in multiple directions (including backward) for several minutes.
  • Ability to routinely and safely perform heavy to very heavy physical tasks associated with "hands-on" student management, including during emergency situations or when responding to aggressive behavior.
  • Must be capable of learning and correctly demonstrating multi-step physical procedures/maneuvers to manage students independently or as part of a coordinated team.
  • This position requires in-person, on-site attendance.
