Job Overview
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of advanced pharmaceutical process equipment at customer sites. The role demands strong electrical and mechanical expertise, working knowledge of control systems (PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation), and the ability to deliver high-quality service in compliance with industry standards and regulations. This is a customer-facing position requiring frequent travel and a service-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform on-site installation, commissioning, qualification (IQ/OQ), and validation support for pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment.
- Provide scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency corrective repairs for both mechanical and electrical subsystems.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving motors, actuators, sensors, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Calibrate instrumentation (e.g., pressure sensors, temperature probes, flow meters) in accordance with cGMP and ISO standards.
- Interpret and utilize electrical schematics, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals during service activities.
- Ensure proper documentation of service reports, calibration records, and regulatory compliance forms.
- Conduct customer training on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and validation teams to support change controls, equipment upgrades, and retrofits.
- Manage spare parts inventories, recommend replacements/upgrades, and coordinate with supply chain or OEMs as needed.
- Represent the company professionally, ensuring customer satisfaction through clear communication and technical excellence.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related discipline (or equivalent vocational/technical training with relevant experience).
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in field service, preferably in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industry.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electromechanical equipment and control systems in a regulated environment.
- Solid understanding of automation platforms including PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.), HMIs, VFDs, and related interfaces.
- Working knowledge of GMP and general validation principles.
- Experience within qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) documentation and execution.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control logic diagrams, mechanical layouts, and instrumentation drawings.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers, contractors, and internal teams.
- Valid driver's license and passport; ability and willingness to travel up to 75%, including international destinations with no travel restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with process environments such as ISO 14644 cleanrooms or GMP production areas.
- Multi-lingual (Spanish, German and or French) for international support roles.

- Comfortable working in cleanroom and regulated environments.
- Ability to manage time and priorities in high-pressure situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on mechanical tasks.
- Work in confined spaces or elevated positions when required.
- Tolerance for frequent travel and extended stays on-site.
