Position Description:

The Marketing and Communications Director leads Love Columbia's overall marketing and communications strategy, brand identity, and public messaging. The Director is responsible for clarifying, strengthening, and promoting Love Columbia's mission through integrated marketing campaigns, consistent brand stewardship, and compelling storytelling. This role works closely with the Development and Program teams to support donor growth, volunteer recruitment, community engagement, and organizational reputation.

The Director supervises the Marketing and Communications Coordinator and all marketing and communications interns. This role ensures that all marketing efforts—from social media to newsletters to fundraising campaigns—align with a cohesive strategic plan. The Director transforms marketing from ad-hoc content creation into an organized, measurable, mission-aligned function that advances Love Columbia's long-term vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, or brand management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-channel campaigns (email, social, events, print, web) from strategy to evaluation
  • Experience supervising team members, interns, contractors, or creative partners
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills; ability to translate complex work into clear, compelling messaging
  • High level of proficiency with digital marketing tools, analytics platforms, and CRM-adjacent systems
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and making decisions quickly
  • Commitment to Love Columbia's mission, values, and work
  • Understanding of donor and volunteer motivations preferred
  • Nonprofit marketing experience is helpful but not required

Essential Functions and Duties

Brand Strategy and Stewardship

  • Define, articulate, and protect the Love Columbia brand across all teams and channels
  • Develop and maintain brand standards, voice guidelines, and organization-wide messaging frameworks
  • Strengthen community understanding of Love Columbia's mission, impact, and identity

Marketing and Communications Strategy

  • Build an annual strategic marketing and communications plan supporting donor revenue, volunteer recruitment, and community engagement
  • Design and oversee integrated marketing campaigns for fundraising, awareness, and volunteer initiatives
  • Ensure all communication channels—including social media, newsletters, website, and print—support a cohesive strategy
  • Evaluate and improve marketing processes, tools, and workflows

Content and Storytelling

  • Lead development of compelling stories that highlight Love Columbia's impact
  • Oversee content creation across digital, print, and multimedia formats
  • Collaborate with staff to capture client, volunteer, and donor stories in a respectful and mission-aligned manner

Communications and Public Relations

  • Draft and oversee key communications, press releases, speeches, and public statements
  • Manage crisis communication planning and response with leadership
  • Represent Love Columbia at community events, partner meetings, and public engagements as needed

Analytics and Marketing Operations

  • Establish and track key performance indicators for all marketing and communications channels
  • Build dashboards to measure effectiveness and guide decision-making
  • Use data to refine messaging, targeting, and campaign strategy

Team Leadership

  • Supervise the Marketing and Communications Coordinator
  • Supervise, train, and mentor marketing and communications interns
  • Provide coaching, professional development, and creative feedback
  • Manage contractors, freelancers, and agency partners as needed

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Health insurance benefits offered.
