Lead Ontology Engineer
to join an early-stage
Physical AI
startup building a next-generation
autonomous factory
for experimentation, engineering, and manufacturing.

This is a small, world-class engineering team working from first principles to enable autonomous systems that operate across
machines, tools, materials, simulations, and real production environments
. At the core of this effort is a rigorous semantic foundation that lets agents reason about the physical world — not just observe it.

The Role

This role owns
how meaning, constraints, and relationships are represented
across a live factory and its digital twin.

You'll design and evolve ontologies and knowledge graphs that stay coherent as equipment, processes, and data streams continuously change — while enabling planning, reasoning, and learning for agents operating both in simulation and on the factory floor.

Your work directly determines how autonomous systems
understand manufacturing reality
, coordinate complex workflows, and bridge the gap between digital intent and physical execution.

What You'll Do

  • Model
    machines, tools, materials, parts, and manufacturing processes
    as first-class semantic entities
  • Design and maintain
    ontologies and knowledge graphs
    that power reasoning across the factory and its digital twin
  • Encode
    constraints, affordances, and relationships
    that reflect real physical and operational limits
  • Partner closely with
    robotics, simulation, and ML teams
    to establish shared semantics across systems
  • Ensure semantic representations remain stable and extensible as the factory evolves
  • Translate messy, real-world manufacturing knowledge into
    formal, computable structure

What We're Looking For

  • Deep experience with
    ontologies, knowledge graphs, or semantic systems
    in complex domains
  • Comfort working close to
    physical systems, robotics, manufacturing, or cyber-physical environments
  • Strong instincts for modeling
    reality, not abstractions for their own sake
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines while owning a critical technical foundation
  • Enjoyment of early-stage ambiguity and building foundational infrastructure from scratch
