ASRC Federal is seeking a
Senior Systems
Engineer
to support the Defense Healthcare Management Systems Modernization (DHMSM) Program Office by providing engineering, integration, and operational support for the Fixed Facility Government Approved Lab (FFGAL). This lab serves as the test and validation environment for MHS GENESIS clinical, infrastructure, and interoperability solutions prior to deployment into operational Military Health System facilities.
The Engineer ensures that systems, applications, and hardware within the lab are installed, configured, maintained, tested, and decommissioned in accordance with DHA/DHMSM engineering standards, cybersecurity requirements, and program schedules. The role serves as a primary technical point of contact within the FFGAL for vendors, DHA infrastructure teams, and DHMSM engineering leadership.
Basic Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience. Additional work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Ability to occasionally travel; (this is a remote position)
- Experience with systems engineering and lifecycle support in a DoD health IT environment.
- Ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, virtual machines, and applications in test and operational lab environments.
- Skilled in requirements documentation, technical analysis, and prioritization of engineering tasks.
- Capability to coordinate across engineering, cybersecurity, test, and vendor teams to support lab operations and system integration.
- Knowledge of interoperability planning and integration testing for MHS GENESIS and related clinical systems.
- Experience applying DoD/DHA cybersecurity and engineering compliance standards (e.g., STIGs, RMF, ATO sustainment).
- Familiarity with risk identification and mitigation in complex technical environments.
- Ability to support lab environment administration, including provisioning, patching, remediation, and decommissioning of systems.
Key Competencies
- Understanding of MHS GENESIS system architecture, data flows, and dependencies with DHA enterprise and external systems.
- Proficiency with virtualization and infrastructure technologies, including VMware vSphere, Active Directory, and Windows Server environments.
- Skilled in applying cybersecurity compliance activities, including STIG application, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening.
- Familiarity with interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, DICOM) and clinical data exchange requirements in DoD healthcare systems.
- Experience in Agile or hybrid program environments supporting engineering tasks and backlog management.
- Ability to use engineering support tools such as ServiceNow, LMT/Jazz, AVHE Labs, and secure file transfer systems.
- Strong communication skills to translate technical issues for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell) to support system administration and configuration tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engineering tasks in a fast-paced test-driven environment.
- Collaborative skills to engage effectively across DHA/DHMSM, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Awareness of Zero Trust-aligned security principles and application to DoD/DHA systems.
- Proficiency in networking concepts (VLANs, routing, firewall policies) supporting lab and test environments.
- Experience with automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, PowerShell) for configuration and system administration.
- Familiarity with DHMSM "capability block" sustainment and optimization approach for MHS GENESIS.
Certifications
- Required: CompTIA Security+
- Recommended: CCNA (Cisco), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or Microsoft Server Administrator certification
- Preferred: Prior DHMSM or DHMS program experience
Job Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for FFGAL operations, including new system intake, VM provisioning, hardware/software installation, upgrades, patching, remediation, troubleshooting, and decommissioning.
- Ensure test equipment availability for MHS GENESIS deployment and sustainment activities by maintaining workstations, servers, network systems, and specialized medical IT hardware.
- Participate in validation of clinical systems (e.g., PACS, Radiology, Pharmacy, mobile applications) to confirm readiness for operational use.
- Apply DHA cybersecurity hardening and vulnerability remediation (STIGs, ACAS/SCAP) to keep all FFGAL systems compliant with ATO boundaries.
- Maintain configuration documentation, as-built records, and asset inventories for lab systems in accordance with DHA Records Management requirements.
- Coordinate with DHA J-6 and vendor support teams on technical issues, patches, and configuration changes.
- Track engineering actions, backlog items, and risks in LMT/Jazz, ServiceNow, and related repositories.
- Provide technical input during IPTs, backlog reviews, and specialty working groups related to FFGAL test planning and execution.
- Support integration testing for upgrades and new capabilities in alignment with DHMSM project timelines.
