Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading and continuously improving the organization's Quality and Food Safety programs across all facilities. This role ensures that all products meet or exceed customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and company standards for quality and safety. The position oversees quality control, product sampling, and testing from raw materials through finished goods, while working cross-functionally with Operations, R&D, and Customer Service to maintain certifications, manage audits, and drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Leadership
- Provide clear direction and leadership to the Quality and Food Safety team, setting expectations, accountability, and a shared sense of purpose.
- Establish the department's vision and long-term goals in alignment with overall company objectives.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement across all quality functions.
- Support team members through regular coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
- Identify and develop future leaders to strengthen team capability and succession planning.
- Promote proactive problem-solving and empower staff to make data-driven decisions.
- Ensure effective communication between Quality, Operations, Customer Service, R&D, and Procurement.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment to company values while recognizing and celebrating team achievements.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management
- Lead product sampling and quality control activities to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and regulations.
- Oversee product holds, disposition, and release processes with accurate documentation.
- Coordinate annual testing programs (e.g., heavy metals, pesticides, microbiological).
- Track and analyze quality KPIs to identify and act on trends and improvement opportunities.
- Serve as Mock Recall Coordinator for ingredients, packaging, and finished goods, ensuring program effectiveness.
- Lead external audits and certification visits (e.g., GFSI, Kosher, etc.).
- Maintain facility registrations, certifications, and compliance documentation.
Regulatory & Customer Compliance
- Lead preparation and response for regulatory inspections, customer audits, and certification audits.
- Manage the customer complaint and CAPA process, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain consistent documentation and communication of audit outcomes and preventive measures.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with GFSI, FSMA, GMPs, and other applicable standards.
Training & Development
- Develop and deliver quality and food safety training for site quality and operations teams.
- Mentor plant-level quality leaders to ensure consistent program execution and professional growth.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze performance metrics to identify systemic trends and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to implement process and system enhancements that strengthen product safety and efficiency.
- Drive a proactive, improvement-focused culture within all quality operations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
- 5–8 years of experience in Food Quality Assurance or Food Safety, with at least 3 years in a leadership or multi-site role.
- Strong knowledge of GFSI schemes, HACCP, GMPs, FSMA, FSVP, and related regulations.
- Experience in ingredient, seasoning, or dry blending manufacturing preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven leadership across multi-site teams with strong communication and alignment skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis, CAPA, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Hands-on, results-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, and data analytics tools.
- Experience supporting audits, documentation control, and regulatory response management.
Certifications (Required or Preferred)
- HACCP Certification (Required)
- SQF Practitioner or PCQI Certification (Preferred)
- Internal Auditor Certification (GFSI or ISO Preferred)
- FDA Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) (Preferred)
- Kosher Compliance Training or equivalent experience (Preferred)
