The Finance Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for all financial functions, ensuring that Center for Christian Virtue's financial practices align with its mission and values. This role oversees financial planning and analysis, budgeting, accounting, risk management, treasury, and compliance.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer  

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Compensation: Full-time, Salaried/Exempt

Location: CCV Office in Columbus, Ohio, with Occasional Statewide Travel

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Lead the ministry's annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports and analyses to leadership and Board of Directors.
  • Monitor financial performance, prepare variance analyses, and recommend strategies for sustainability.
  • Identify opportunities to maximize resources and advance the ministry's mission through cost savings and improved efficiency.

Strategy and Stewardship

  • Partner with leadership to align financial decisions with ministry goals and biblical stewardship principles.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance for funding initiatives, capital campaigns, and ministry expansion.
  • Develop and implement investment and reserve policies that ensure mission-aligned, responsible management of funds.

Risk, Compliance, and Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS, and nonprofit accounting standards, including accurate and timely completion of IRS Form 990 and other required filings.
  • Oversee and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures for fiscal accountability.
  • Coordinate annual internal and external audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Assess and mitigate financial, operational, and strategic risks.
  • Review and monitor all employee credit card purchases for compliance with organizational policies and approved spending limits while ensuring all transactions are supported by appropriate receipts and documentation.
  • Conduct monthly budget review meetings with department leaders to assess actual spending against approved budgets and identify areas of over- or under-spending and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to plan for upcoming expenses, adjust forecasts, and assure alignment with organizational financial goals.
  • Provide the Chief Operating Officer with regular and timely reports on departmental budget adherence and spending trends.

Treasury and Cash Flow Management

  • Oversee all cash flow and treasury functions to ensure adequate liquidity for ongoing operations and ministry programs.
  • Manage organizational banking relationships, investment accounts, and debt obligations.
  • Develop and enforce financial policies related to expenditures, credit cards, and purchasing.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead the finance and operations staff, including the Staff Accountant and Executive Assistant.
  • Collaborate across departments to provide financial insight, training, and support to department leaders.

Stakeholder and External Relations

  • Provide financial information that supports donor confidence and transparency.
  • Partner with development and fundraising teams to ensure accurate reporting of contributions, restricted funds, and donor stewardship.
  • Maintain relationships with auditors, financial institutions, and other external partners.
  • Present financial updates to the Board of Directors and relevant committees.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in financial leadership, preferably in a nonprofit or ministry environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Character and Spiritual

  • Mature Christian, currently attending or pursuing attendance in a local church.
  • Agreement with and adherence to CCV's Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrated commitment to CCV's mission and position on Core Issues.
  • Ability to work discreetly with confidential information.
  • Trustworthy, responsible, tactful, diplomatic, and focused on building consensus rather than emphasizing differences.
