Washington, Washington, D.C., United States Capitol Engineering Group Careers Full time

Are You Ready to Design the Future?

Capitol Engineering Group is looking for a driven and talented Mechanical Design Engineer II to take a leadership role in our most complex HVAC engineering projects. This isn't just a design role—it's an opportunity to become a technical leader who defines project success, solves high-level challenges, and directly mentors the next generation of engineers.

If you thrive on owning the complete project lifecycle, from initial concept through final delivery, and are passionate about delivering high-quality, efficient mechanical systems, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do: Impact & Initiative

As a Mechanical Design Engineer II, you will be instrumental in both designing new, cutting-edge HVAC systems and strategically rehabilitating existing infrastructure. Your work will be the backbone of our projects.

Project Leadership: Lead the technical execution of complex HVAC engineering projects, ensuring designs are innovative, compliant, and cost-effective.

Advanced Analysis: Perform and validate advanced engineering calculations, including detailed heating/cooling load analysis, equipment sizing, and hydraulic and friction loss calculations.

Technical Authority: Develop specifications and enforce high-quality standards, methods, and procedures for design review and inspection across the team.

Problem Solver: Identify, troubleshoot, and implement efficient, novel solutions to complex, non-routine engineering challenges that impact project direction.

Mentorship & Guidance: Act as a direct mentor and technical resource for junior engineers, directing workflow, resolving technical roadblocks, and fostering their professional growth.

What We're Looking For: Expertise & Experience

Experience: 3+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design engineering, specifically focused on HVAC systems.

Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in advanced engineering calculations (loads, sizing, hydraulics) and developing comprehensive system specifications.

Leadership Acumen: Proven ability to manage technical aspects of projects, work of others, and effectively resolve complex technical issues.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Licensure: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is a plus.

Why Join Capitol Engineering Group?

At Capitol Engineering Group, we invest in our people. We offer a challenging and supportive environment where you will have the autonomy to make high-impact decisions and the resources to continuously grow your expertise. You will be part of a team that is not just building projects, but building careers.
