Undergraduate or Graduate Policy Internship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) seeks a motivated college student or recent college graduate to join a passionate team for a paid internship with the Policy and Member Advocacy Department. The policy team tracks and analyzes federal legislation on gender equity in education, women's economic security, and civil rights.

The internship will support our work to advance federal legislation and serve as a resource to our members' advocacy engagement. The typical length of an internship is one semester (approximately 10-12 weeks) and operates in a hybrid office environment in Washington, DC.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct research on legislation and policy affecting gender equity and track developments relevant to AAUW's priorities.
  • Draft and edit advocacy materials, including fact sheets, issue briefs, talking points, letters, and other communications.
  • Support AAUW's voter education and engagement efforts, including the It's My Vote campaign and related initiatives.
  • Engage with members and partner organizations to support advocacy and coalition efforts.
  • Monitor and respond to activist inquiries through the Grassroots Advocacy inbox, helping supporters take effective action.
  • Other related activities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in women's equity and commitment to inclusion and equity;
  • Strong writing, and research skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, take initiative and seek direction as needed;
  • Strong and demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite;
  • Interest in public policy, advocacy, and communications;
  • Current pursuance of an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree, or recent graduate.

Compensation and Location

  • Internship positions are paid $18.00 per hour and are expected to work a minimum of 22 hours per week. The typical length of an internship is one semester (approximately 10-12 weeks), with an anticipated start date of January 19, 2026, and end date of April 24, 2026.
  • Interns are expected to work during our core business hours (9am to 5pm ET). The internship operates in a hybrid office environment with two days per week in the Washington, DC, office.
  • Interns will have access to a computer when working in the office and will be provided a laptop for remote work.
