Position Overview
Mecartea and Associates PLLC seeks a highly skilled and mission-driven Managing Attorney to oversee firm operations and legal teams in Arizona and Washington State. The Managing Attorney will supervise attorneys and support staff across the firm's International Law, Immigration Law, Civil & Human Rights, and Family & Juvenile Law divisions. This position ensures high-quality legal services, professional development of team members, and consistent alignment with the firm's values of justice, advocacy, and community-centered representation.
The Managing Attorney reports directly to the Executive Leadership / Managing Partner of Mecartea and Associates PLLC.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Provide day-to-day leadership to legal teams in Arizona and Washington.
Supervise attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants in assigned practice areas.
Conduct regular case reviews, ensure compliance with firm standards, and maintain efficient workflow.
Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for legal staff.
Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance work environment.
Practice Oversight
International Law
Guide teams handling cross-border legal matters, treaty-based claims, and international human rights advocacy.
Ensure adherence to relevant international frameworks and foreign-jurisdiction processes.
Immigration Law
Oversee litigation and administrative matters including asylum, family-based petitions, removal defense, visas, naturalization, and humanitarian relief.
Monitor legal developments and ensure best practices across offices.
Civil & Human Rights
Supervise impact litigation, civil rights investigations, and strategic advocacy for underserved communities.
Ensure legal strategies reflect current federal, state, and international protections.
Family & Juvenile Law
Manage cases involving custody, dependency, guardianship, child welfare, and protective orders.
Ensure trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and legally sound representation.
Strategy & Compliance
Develop policies and procedures to support ethical, efficient, and high-quality service.
Ensure compliance with state bars (Arizona & Washington), federal regulations, and international practice requirements.
Collaborate with leadership on strategic growth, community partnerships, and program development.
Client Relations & Representation
Handle select high-impact or complex cases.
Provide mentorship and case strategy support to attorneys.
Ensure consistent, compassionate, client-centered representation across practice teams.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
License to practice law in Arizona, Washington, or both (dual licensure preferred; ability to obtain reciprocal admission acceptable).
Minimum 7–10 years of legal practice, with demonstrated leadership experience.
Strong background in at least one of the core practice areas; familiarity with all is preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to civil rights, immigrant justice, and community advocacy.
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multi-state teams and work across diverse legal disciplines.
Location & Travel
Position may be based in Arizona or Washington, with required travel between offices as necessary.
Remote and hybrid flexibility may be available depending on office needs.
