Tesco Controls' core business is designing and building process control systems and power solutions for municipalities and industrial clients to keep critical infrastructure operating efficiently. Job Summary:
The Transportation Regional Sales Manager (RSM) is responsible for driving specification position, business development, and bookings growth within an assigned territory. Acting as the face of TESCO in the field, the RSM partners closely with inside sales estimators to qualify opportunities, position TESCO solutions, and secure profitable projects. This role requires strong customer engagement, account management, and opportunity pursuit skills to grow market share in transportation markets.
The RSM ensures inside sales teams are supported with the customer intelligence, relationship leverage, and pursuit strategy needed to maximize success.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Customer & Market Engagement:
- Develop and execute regional sales strategies to achieve bookings targets and margin goals
- Establish and maintain relationships with municipalities, contractors, consulting engineers, OEMs, and channel partners
- Conduct regular customer visits, presentations, and site walk-throughs to identify opportunities and strengthen trust
- Represent TESCO at industry events, trade shows, and regional associations
Opportunity Development:
- Partner with electrical contractors and inside sales estimators to qualify opportunities and define bid strategy
- Gather customer insights on project drivers, competitive landscape, and decision-making processes
- Identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities for TESCO products, services, and aftermarket offerings
- Assist inside sales in resolving scope clarifications, positioning, and pre-bid discussions
- Work with municipalities and departments of transportation to drive specification position
Sales Execution & Collaboration:
- Drive accountability for territory pipeline development and accurate forecasting
- Work with Estimating, Engineering, and Product Management to align proposals with customer needs and TESCO's value proposition
- Support negotiation of contract terms, price escalations, and change orders as needed
- Provide feedback on market trends, competitor activities, and emerging customer needs
Strategic Alignment:
- Ensure territory growth aligns with company-wide strategic initiatives and margin expectations
- Collaborate with inside sales team to influence product positioning and solution adoption
- Contribute to lessons-learned reviews to continuously improve sales effectiveness
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered
- 5+ years of outside sales, account management, or business development experience in control systems, automation, or electrical infrastructure markets
- Demonstrated success managing a territory, growing accounts, and achieving or exceeding sales quotas
- Strong understanding of public works bidding processes, general contractor/subcontractor dynamics, and municipal procurement
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP preferred
- Willingness to travel regionally (50–70% of time)
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to walk for short to long periods of time for job walk purposes.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and reach.
- Required to visit public and private utility plants, construction sites, and other off-site locations.
Pay offered will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and geographic location. We may pay more or less than the range based on the person's qualifications. In good faith we believe the range is what we will pay for this role at the time of the posting and may change in the future. In addition, Tesco offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vacation, holidays, and 100% 401K match of your contributions up to 4% of your earnings.
