Position: Autonomy Integration Specialist

About BlackSea Technologies
BlackSea Technologies is at the forefront of developing advanced autonomous maritime systems. We deliver mission-ready solutions that integrate cutting-edge autonomy, sensor, and payload technologies into Unmanned Maritime Vehicles (UMVs) for government and commercial clients. Our open-architecture approach accelerates capability integration and enables rapid fielding of complex, cross-domain systems.

About The Role
As an Autonomy Integration Specialist, you will play a hands-on, cross-functional role integrating advanced sensor suites, payloads, autonomy software, and control systems into BlackSea's UMV platforms. While UMAA is a primary integration framework, you'll also use and extend BlackSea's integration toolsets to help develop reusable integration tools that accelerate onboarding of third-party solutions in the future.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex integration challenges, enjoys working at the intersection of hardware and software, and wants to directly influence the performance and reliability of mission-ready systems.

Key Responsibilities

Integration & Architecture

  • Integrate sensors, payloads, autonomy modules, and control software into BlackSea UMV platforms using a combination of UMAA and internally developed integration tools.
  • Extend and evolve BlackSea's integration toolsets, contributing to a growing SDK and reusable frameworks that simplify future third-party capability integration.
  • Collaborate with autonomy developers, systems engineers, and hardware teams to ensure seamless integration across all platform layers.
  • Leverage RTI DDS and other communication frameworks to enable scalable, open-architecture integration patterns.

Testing & Verification

  • Lead integration testing in simulation, lab environments, and field trials.
  • Develop and execute disciplined test plans and verification procedures to ensure system safety, reliability, and mission readiness.
  • Support rapid debugging, troubleshooting, and iteration during integration and test cycles.

Systems Engineering & DevSecOps

  • Contribute to DevSecOps pipelines to streamline continuous integration and deployment of autonomy and mission software.
  • Work with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized frameworks to support modular, scalable deployments.
  • Ensure integration workflows meet cybersecurity, safety, and performance requirements.

Collaboration

  • Partner closely with autonomy engineers, mission specialists, and test teams to deliver mission-ready capabilities.
  • Support fielding activities, including on-site integration, troubleshooting, and testing as required.

Required Qualifications & Skills
Technical Expertise

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience integrating autonomy, sensors, or payload systems into robotic, maritime, or aerospace platforms.
  • Proficiency in C++, with familiarity across multiple languages (Python, Java, etc.).
  • Experience with Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA) and RTI DDS.
  • Knowledge of software architectures, network topologies, and integration patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized deployments.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps pipelines and secure integration workflows.
  • Experience developing reusable integration tools, SDKs, or APIs to accelerate capability onboarding.
  • Strong understanding of system testing, verification, and validation frameworks to ensure safety and reliability.

Preferred

  • Experience integrating autonomy capabilities, sensors, or mission payloads into maritime or robotic platforms.
  • Familiarity with sensor fusion, control architectures, and real-time data processing.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
