Commercial Leadership at Synapse
Synapse's Commercial Leads are pivotal in driving the company's growth by defining strategies to expand the business, sourcing and onboarding new clients, and, once engaged, building and maintaining strategic relationships. They leverage their deep understanding of technology, product development, and relevant market trends to help clients realize business transformation through technological innovation, often delivering value through strategic guidance and workshop facilitation.
Commercial Leads collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategies for expanding the business into target market verticals or within existing accounts. They inject market insights into content marketing and thought leadership to demonstrate how Synapse's technical expertise addresses the trends and challenges businesses face.
During the sales process, Commercial Leads work directly with clients and partners, as well as with engineering, contracts, and executive teams, to ensure Synapse provides optimal solutions. During project execution, Commercial Leads actively maintain client relationships, delivering ongoing strategic guidance and support, enabling Synapse to anticipate and respond to evolving needs and identify further opportunities.
YOUR ROLE
Synapse is committed to making a positive impact on the world through technology and product innovation. The primary focus for this role is to build a portfolio of business developing products and technologies that advance industrial productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. This includes collaborating with companies in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, energy, food production, waste management, transportation, and building systems—anywhere HardTech innovation is valuable.
You'll work closely with our internal team to identify and prioritize target sub-segments for focused business development efforts. The role offers autonomy to shape the right mix of responsibilities to maximize commercial impact. Note that this role requires proactive client acquisition; existing clients will not be assigned.
· Demand Creation
o Leverage market expertise and collaborate with Synapse technical teams to craft and communicate messages to target markets, demonstrating the relevance of Synapse's expertise to their businesses.
o Identify potential clients or referral partners and proactively network within these targets.
o Contribute to the business unit's commercial strategy by surfacing emerging market needs and helping prioritize capability development.
o Act as a thought leader by participating in industry events, publishing content, and representing Synapse in external forums.
· Pursuit and Conversion
o Drive the end-to-end opportunity lifecycle—from initial outreach to contract signature—with support from technical and delivery teams.
o Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Synapse services to effectively communicate Synapse's value to clients.
o Understand client needs and assess how Synapse can best address them, acting as a trusted advisor throughout the engagement.
o In collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, develop and deliver client pitches and proposal presentations.
o Negotiate contracts, including MSAs and SOWs, in collaboration with legal counsel.
· Client Expansion
o Ensure programs are delivered on time, on budget and to a high standard, aligned with client goals and Synapse's ethos.
o Identify potential delivery risks early, monitor key performance metrics, and implement course corrections to maintain project health.
o Develop and maintain strong commercial relationships with senior client stakeholders to enable further opportunities to add value and ensure alignment with client needs.
o Work with multidisciplinary teams to generate and execute strategies to enhance Synapse's value proposition to existing clients.
YOUR PROFILE
We would love to see a candidate with:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; a Masters degree is a plus.10+ years experience in roles such as Business Development, Partnerships, or Product Management.Fluency with technologies, products, and services at the intersection of the physical and digital worlds.Strong understanding of and experience in using AI/GenAI and data as business drivers and technology trends relevant to industrial and B2B companies.Established network with influential individuals, particularly in manufacturing, energy and utilities, smart infrastructure, or agritech sectors.Demonstrated success in shaping and executing go-to-market strategies for new offerings or verticals.Experience and interest in building a personal brand through external communications.Preference for pursuing new business over managing existing business.Experience in a fee-for-service engineering or strategy consulting environment.Talent for developing and maintaining relationships with senior clients.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.Travel is required per 50-75% dependent on client need.WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT WORKING HERE?
