Special Education (SPED) Teacher – Job Description

Overview:

A Special Education Teacher provides instruction, support, and services to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). They create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports academic, social, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide direct instruction tailored to students' individual needs, strengths, and learning styles.
  • Modify curriculum, assessments, and classroom activities to meet diverse learning requirements.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and services.
  • Track and report student progress through data collection, evaluations, and regular communication with families.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold all compliance standards.
  • Promote positive behavior, social skills, and independence through targeted strategies and interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid state certification in Special Education.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with diverse learners and implementing specialized instructional strategies.
