Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Online ELA Teacher to join our educational team. This role involves delivering engaging English Language Arts instruction in a virtual setting, supporting student literacy and writing skills, and fostering a positive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, expertise in curriculum development, and experience working with diverse student populations. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive ELA curriculum aligned with educational standards, including AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, and linguistics principles.
  • Design engaging lesson plans that incorporate learning technology and instructional design best practices.
  • Deliver live online instruction to students across various grade levels, utilizing effective classroom management techniques.
  • Provide individualized tutoring and academic advising to support student progress in literacy, creative writing, and standardized testing preparation.
  • Assess student work through proofreading, copy editing, and formative evaluations to ensure mastery of course content.
  • Mentor students by fostering critical thinking, research skills, and effective communication within a virtual classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and educational administration tasks.
  • Maintain detailed records of student performance and communicate progress to parents or guardians as needed.

Skills

  • Expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional design tailored for online learning environments.
  • Strong writing skills with proficiency in AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, copy editing, proofreading, and creative writing.
  • Knowledge of language arts topics including linguistics, journalism, literacy education, and classroom management strategies.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; familiarity with special education or private school settings is a plus.
  • Ability to utilize learning technology platforms effectively; experience with library services or research tools is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and organizational skills to manage multiple classes efficiently.
  • Background in higher education teaching or classroom experience at various levels; familiarity with Montessori or other specialized educational approaches is beneficial.
  • Skills in standardized testing preparation, tutoring techniques, behavior management, and academic advising are desirable.
