Parts and Field Service is now looking for an enthusiastic Technical Expert, 4-stroke Engines to join our skilled team in the United States of America.

What will you be doing?

The position is open to experienced applicants, to fully support external and internal customers in the region, as well as various other time zones.

This position reports to the General Manager, Marine Technical Services.

Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

Accountabilities:

In this position, you will provide technical support and expertise to ensure the efficient resolution of technical issues and customer inquiries, ensuring efficiency and customer satisfaction.

For us to be the best match, we expect you to have significant technical experience in reciprocating engine operations, design, repair and overhaul.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Processes customer or field service team inquiries covering technical details and service needs. Delivers technical support and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
  • Supports internal and external customers on site and remotely through specialized technical knowledge of product applications and service procedures.
  • Maintains and fosters relationships with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure high-quality technical support.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance service delivery processes and tools, and to enhance product reliability and serviceability.
  • Contributes to the development of technical documentation and support materials.
  • Contributes to the implementation of technical solutions and improvements in line with customer needs and company objectives, contributing to effective resolution of technical issues and continuous improvement.
  • Share technical knowledge and expertise with team members, facilitating professional development.
  • Ensures that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures.
  • Continuously seek solutions according to best practices.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Relevant technical education or qualifications as a combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years technical experience in reciprocating engine repair and overhaul with practical problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in installation, operation and maintenance of turbochargers, pumps, heat exchangers, fuel systems, lubrication systems, cooling systems.
  • Expert level experience on medium speed 4-stroke engines.

Additional Requirements:

This position requires a 20% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.

Effective January 2025, Wartsila companies in the USA have implemented a new hybrid work model. Most employees who live within 40 miles of an office will work 2 days per week in office. This model will provide our employees the flexibility of working from home, while also providing the benefits of in-person collaboration twice a week.
