Vice President, Business Development – A&D Solutions

Main purpose, tasks & responsibilities

Business Development and Market Management are essential for the continued success of the business plan. The job holder assures, that sales, product management, and innovation initiatives are tuned so as to maximize returns for the segment. Working closely with other Market Managers and Partners, the VP incorporates all three technologies as well as necessary third party products. By comprehending (1) customer behaviour, being aware of (2) HUBER+SUHNER's resources, capabilities and competencies, and (3) understanding competition's strategies, the VP finds the best ways to exploit market potential. The role encompasses entrepreneurship and Business Development and identifies and executes on key growth and margin expansion opportunities. The VP BD-Solutions leads the team of Solution Engineers. It is essential to collaborate with the key stakeholders: Sales, Technology & Operations (all technologies) namely with the Product Managers, Market Managers, Corporate Business Development, Solutions Engineering and Marcom.

  • Grow A&D Solutions business by defining a fundamentally solid business plan, adapting key strategies and successfully executing it while monitoring its progress.
  • Identify and select opportunities, programs, and industry initiatives that fit strategic target sub-markets and products.
  • Lead the team of Solutions engineers and implement solutions and projects jointly with the team.
  • Manage the balance of supporting A&D and INS with Solutions Engineering tasks in the frame defined jointly with the S&BD heads.
  • Monitor key customer projects within globally and coordinate between Sales and T&O as required to assure continued progress in support of the business plan.
  • Understand the business environment (customer, competition, supply chain, technology, application of the products, market disruptions, etc.) with its corresponding trends and to initiate the development of new products applications and services by working closely with product management.
  • Collect and analyze market information (market intelligence) and have a comprehensive understanding of competition landscape.
  • Define and support related MarCom (incl. budget, exhibition selection, market sales support material, etc.) and align other product related MarCom activities with A&D and its sub-segments.
  • Support company and product promotions at exhibitions.
  • Assist Sales and Application Engineering in performing customer and sales training on HUBER+SUHNER capabilities, products and respective technologies, as well as informing them of business and technological trends in the market.
  • Develop relationships with the key or lead accounts identified as strategic to success in the assigned markets.
  • Manage the cross-functional activities required to develop, and produce complex proposals for presentation to customers.
  • Lead and support engagements in partnerships, JV and M&A related to A&D market.
  • Maintain a current view of our sales funnel and status of the top opportunities in the market.
  • Identify (local) success stories and prepare them for global multiplication.
  • Adhere to all regulations and guidelines contained in the Global Management System.
Education, skills & experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related field. Advanced degree or MBA preferable.

Experience:

  • Five - ten years relevant industry experience.
  • Three – five years Sales, Market Management, Product Management or Engineering experience involving direct customer contact in the A&D Markets.
  • Technical competence: Wire harness design and manufacturing processes and academic background in at least one of the three technologies

Skills:

  • Solid communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of the product technologies of relevance to the responsible markets.
  • Solid market knowledge and marketing skills.
  • Articulate speaker and writer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research and analyze market trends and programs, via Web, third parties, and direct customer and industry contact.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and nurture executive management relationships and work effectively with other company business units, both regionally and globally.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Significant track record of accomplishments in A&D technology-related markets.
  • Good understanding of the applications in the respective A&D sub-markets and the associated technologies: LF, RF and FO.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Ability to travel as required (including international travel) in support of position objectives.
  • Self-motivated and ability to prioritize tasks. Focuses on the directives and objectives assigned. Must work well in a matrix derived, team environment.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to perform problem analysis and problem resolution.
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a remote team.
