The Assistant Technician is expected to follow all specific instructions given by the Lead Technician as procedures on the machines change from time to time.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.

  • Ability to operate equipment in the Carding area in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Rebuild and remanufacture various machine components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, repairs, and troubleshoots all production machines to ensure their optimal performance. Capable of working from work orders or planned preventive work orders to repair or remediate equipment within an allotted period.
  • Discuss machine/equipment operation variations with supervisor or other maintenance personnel to diagnose problems and/or repair machines.
  • Responsible for machinery daily operation and production. Perform roll changes on the machines and insure the machine is restarted properly by verifying proper edge trim, diameter, and that sticks are not open. If there is a quality problem with a machine, they will shut it down and notify the Operator and Technician. The Assistant Technician is not to perform any adjustments to the machines.
  • Specific for USC Supply - Unpack rolls of paper and properly log them on to the Production Report for each machine according to the procedure in use at the time. Staging paper procedures change from time to time so the Assistant Technician is to follow directions given by the Lead Technician.
  • Utilizes quality data and standard operational procedures to maintain correct product specifications.
  • Perform bend strength measurements at the Posted times. The Assistant Technician is not to make any adjustments for bend strength.
  • Assist the Operator and Technicians with clean up duties to include emptying edge trim bins and trash cans with assistance and cleaning out the waste dump area of the stick machines. The Assistant Technician is not to be expected to do all the cleanup duties around the stick machines.
  • Take breaks at the discretion of the Operator/Technician. Due to the nature of the production process breaks cannot always be taken at a specific time.
  • Needs to be flexible and be prepared for changes in procedures since changes are always being made and it may have been weeks or months since an Assistant Technician last worked with the stick machines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

  • Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience in manufacturing is preferred.

    Carding experience is required.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent

SKILLS

  • Safely and efficiently operate a forklift

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Must pass the Maintenance aptitude test with a score of 60% or higher

    Capacity to learn how to identify electrical mechanical problems.
