Department Summary

The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning's mission is to foster an accessible, student-centered, and supportive educational environment that empowers faculty to effectively teach and engage our diverse student body in innovative and creative ways. It will strive to provide resources, training, and collaborative opportunities that promote student learning and success.



Position Overview

The Assistant Director is a key leadership role within the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL). This position is responsible for advancing innovative educational practices by integrating cutting-edge learning design with comprehensive training and development programs. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to drive strategic initiatives, develop impactful learning experiences, and support the professional growth of educators.



Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in instructional design, education, curriculum & instruction, professional development or a related field and five (5) years of related experience in education, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions:

Preferred Qualifications


• Experience in leadership or supervisory roles within educational settings.

• Familiarity with current trends and best practices in higher education, including online and blended learning.

• Experience teaching at the college or university level, either as a full-time faculty member or an adjunct instructor.

• Demonstrated ability to use data-driven approaches to assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

• Experience in grant writing or securing external funding for educational projects.

• Quality Matters (QM) Certification

Job Duties

  • Learning Design & Curriculum Development Support.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative instructional strategies and digital learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to redesign and modernize course curricula using evidence-based learning design principles. o Oversee the integration of new technologies and multimedia tools into educational programs.
  • Training & Professional Development.
  • Design and deliver training programs and workshops aimed at enhancing teaching skills and fostering professional development.
  • Establish a framework for continuous learning and improvement, including mentorship initiatives and peer-to-peer coaching.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and implement improvements based on feedback and data analysis.
  • Strategic Planning & Project Management.
  • Assist the CITL Director in shaping the strategic direction of the Center, aligning initiatives with institutional goals and emerging trends in education.
  • Manage projects related to innovative teaching practices, ensuring timely execution and adherence to budget.
  • Coordinate with various departments and external stakeholders to secure resources and support for Center initiatives.
  • Leadership & Collaboration.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a diverse team, fostering an environment of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in learning design and professional development, advising on best practices and emerging trends.
  • Represent the Center at conferences, workshops, and collaborative meetings, promoting its vision and programs.
  • Assessment & Impact Evaluation.
  • Develop and implement metrics to assess the impact of learning design and training initiatives on teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for CITL leadership, highlighting successes, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
