Role description:

Arcadis seeks to hire a Survey Department Manager to join our team in Atlanta, GA. 

This position requires extensive knowledge of field-to-finish processing of survey data. You should be detail oriented, able to work decisively and independently with a minimum of supervision, possess a strong willingness to collaborate with other team members, be attentive to quality and willing to take on responsibility. You will be presented with leading edge technology and access to state-of-the art software tools. Therefore, this position is ideal for a high-level performer wishing to establish a career position with a leading international firm.

Role accountabilities:

As the Survey Department Manager, you will perform survey related calculations, produce survey plats, and prepare topographic base maps for our designers. You will also oversee and assist with deed research, writing legal descriptions and processing survey data collected from our field teams. This position is responsible for receiving and evaluating survey assignments, preparing field crews with point staking information and project scope, interpretation of deeds and maps which affect property rights and boundary lines, and coordination and review of CADD preparation of final survey database. Final survey database may include boundary, topographic, planimetric or design related deliverables.

Additional duties as Survey Department Manager are:

  • Communication with internal & external project stakeholders
  • Oversite of project & personnel schedules
  • Preparation of project proposals
  • Conduct department meetings and attend project meetings
  • Maintaining knowledge of project scope, schedule, budget, and group workload
  • Conducting final survey QA/QC functions
  • Overseeing status of equipment / supplies/ company vehicles
  • Assess staff capabilities, lead staff hiring, and staff management
  • Assess training needs and conduct / coordinate needed technical training

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ or more years relevant experience
  • Licensed Professional Land Surveyor
  • Experience managing field crews and production
  • Extensive knowledge and experience using GDOT Survey Procedures and OpenRoads Processing Guidelines
  • Bachelor's degree in surveying and Mapping or Geomatics, or related field
  • Proficient in the use of total stations, robotic equipment, GPS, and levels

Preferred Qualifications:

Key Required Attributes:


• Strong understanding of surveying mathematics, data adjustments, property boundaries, surface modeling, analyzing quality of data, and processing of field data, including GPS.


• Ability to read and write detailed and accurate legal descriptions, ability to perform deed research, both online and at local jurisdictions and deliver the high-quality and accurate survey databases.


• Strong analytical, problem solving, and multitasking skills.


• Has acquired or is interested in working towards relevant certifications (SIT, PLS, etc.)


• Adept at scheduling field work and CADD deliverables to meet client deadlines and budgets.
