Principal Job Functions

  • *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  • *Performs all types of diagnostic x-ray procedures to include radiography, fluoroscopy, portable diagnostic and portable fluoroscopy; practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self.
  • *Uses sterile technique as required.
  • *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
  • Performs venipunctures.
  • *Competently operates all diagnostic x-ray equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS and offsite Radiologist Services
  • *Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
  • *Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
  • *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and proper communication with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
  • *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as assigned.
  • *Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
  • *Keeps area properly supplied.
  • *Competently sets up and operates various c-arms to support high volume surgical cases in the operating room. Develops positive rapport with surgeons in the operating room.
  • *Competently sets up and operates o-arms in the operating room to support high volume surgical cases, working closely with the surgeons.
  • *Competently operates all x-ray equipment to perform trauma imaging via portable or stationary x-ray systems. Achieves high quality trauma images in an expedient manner.
  • *Competently and efficiently completes all types of x-ray imaging for high volume trauma clinic patients.
  • Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
  • *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of radiologic positioning, and use of technical factors and radiation safety practices.
  • Skill in operating radiologic equipment, image capturing devices, PACS and other related systems.
  • Ability to react appropriately and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age continuum.
  • Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in the work environment.

Education And Experience
Graduate of a school of Radiologic Technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required. Valid State of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license required.

Other Credentials / Certifications
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

Physical Requirements
